Read an article in the Times that easyjet are looking at axing there LGW to ORK, NOC and SNN. This was easyjets first move into the Republic and when the routes were announced Ryanair immediately announed the same routes from LGW.
Loads to these airports must never have been heavy enough to support two carriers and Ryanair would never have let easyjet try and get a foothold in their home turf! Looks as if Easyjet are going to concentrate on other more profitable routes out of LGW.
Maybe they should have learned from GOs experience when they launched GLA and EDI to DUB and went head to head with Ryanair, GO lasted about six months before throwing in the towel and pulling the plug.
I think Easyjet will think twice about taking on Ryanair directly on the same route again especially the UK to IRL routes. Think they may fly to a couple of destinations that are similar from STN, altough Ryanair prefer the barn yard 100miles from anywhere! :dev2:

It’s a shame that EZY are possibly leaving those routes as I now suspect we’ll see more realistic fares again. I suppose RYR will pull a few rotations as well to claw back the yields. Ah well, good while it lasted.

This has come as a consequence of the expansion in the winter:

The routes will be stopped in September, it appears.
On another note EZY flights to SAW (Istanbul) are in doubt after Turkish authorities have failed to grant permission:

Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. I’ve travelled LGW-ORK a couple of times with EZY and they had about, as you say redsquare, 85 pax on board each time.
Ryanair have added a third daily flight from Cork-Gatwick for the Winter as well, so it may well be bye-bye EZY in Ireland.

I won’t be surprised if EZY go ahead and chop the routes if there’s money to be made elsewhere. Here’s the loads and average pax numbers for the routes for March 2006;
Cork-London(all airports)
Ryanair 42,700pax 73% load factor 138 average pax
easyJet 14,300pax 55% load factor 86 average pax
Shannon-London
Ryanair 37,300 69% 130
easyJet 4,500 52% 81
Knock-London
Ryanair 24,100 69% 130
easyJet 5,400 55% 86
Loads of 50-55% aren’t sustainable in the low cost model but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
