I’ve long regarded the German eBay site to be one of the best sources of wartime photos on the net.
Given my particular interests, I usually navigate via:-
Sammeln & Seltenes>Militaria>1918-1945>Fotos, Briefe and Postkarten, then I refine the search by looking for Flugzeug in title or description.
The results are staggering. It seems that every German squaddy carried his camera with him when invading other people’s land, and then snapped away at any and everything he happened upon.
Besides shed loads of Heinkels, Junkers and Messerschmitts, there are captured/downed ‘planes from Russia, Poland and France, etc.
Every now and again, an R.A.F. aeroplane features. Here’s a small selection from a very quick trawl this morning:-
force landed Whirlwind, St Nazaire (1944???)
Hampden L4146 (ran out of fuel in May 1940 and force landed in Germany)
a burned out Hurricane…err edit, I now realise it’s a Spitfire by the gun layout!
This one is claimed to be a Spitfire!

If you are into cockpit details, this one is pretty good. It’s a Bf 109 of some kind.
Shame that they end up on eBay, and I only hope there are dedicated researchers with more time and patience than I to keep an eye out for the gems that come along.
If you haven’t already discovered this resource, I recommend you spend an hour or two browsing it. There’s bound to be something of interest if you are into wartime aviation.

It’s a cracking photo. I may have bid on it if I’d seen it, but not to that level.
The codes EM-W would seem to make it L7380 of 207 Sqn, damaged by night fighter near Kiel and force landed on beach at Ameland Is, Frisians, on 7/8th September 1941. Pilot F/L W J Lewis, and all crew POWs, target was Berlin.
Info from Robert Kirby’s excellent book on the Manchester, and Bomber Command Losses by W R Chorley.

Well I guess its an extremely rare photograph. I look at Ebay Deutschland most weeks & I have never seen an image of a Manchester before this one.

All the good stuff on PA474 here today made me think that there might be some interest in this picture of a Manchester on Ebay Deutschland:
Not in bidding as you posted some five hours after bidding stopped, but £158 for a photo? From a buyer in Canada? What is going on here?

photos
Hi
Thanks for the post.
I often wonder what aircraft will next turn up in luftwaffe markings, at least we all get to view them even if we all can’t afford the photos
and at least they are preserved by someone and not thrown away..
cheers

Hopefully, i’m not a collector of original late wae Luftwaffe photos. See :
1.000 USd for a single photo !!!!
Was amazed 5 years ago when they were selling at 100 and amazed again 2 years ago when they were at 200/300. Wonder where it will stop.

As an avid aviation photo & negative collector, of 37 years, from the PRE-Internet Era, you certainly have my curiosity meter fully lit, Mark. Is there any chance of letting us know who this person/these persons are?
I don’t hoard them-I share them, and trade them too..(well at least “most” of them) 🙂
PM sent.

I think we can safely predict that the above photos will be go to ‘Z3M’ or ‘Sudek13’, presumed to be the same operation and well up the ‘Forbes list’.
Never knowingly outbid. 🙂

the hurri’s serial
The Hurri’s serial is V7833.
Anyone able to give information on who, what, where ,when and how?.
Good find though.
I’ve looked at some of the other photos and like it’s said,it seems that everyone in the Whermacht had a camera and was encouraged to use it.

force landed Whirlwind, St Nazaire (1944???)
Hi All,
I’m on another rare visit to the board, just to correct the facts,
this aircraft is P7095 137 Sqn SF-H Hit by flak crashed near Doullen 23.1.43, Sgt Brown was killed.
Somewhat mysterious circumstances surround the incident, apparently he survived the crash but was later found dead, I would be most interested if anyone has any further info.
P7095, or parts of it eventually went to rechlin.
A very expensive purchase for the buyer of the photo,
copyright is either with the ecpa or westlands,
as both I think I recall have them, and can supply one cheaper and also the other five photos of P7095 in the series taken ……
of interest 137 also lost on this day P7054, W/O A I DOIG PoW, again any info on this would be of interest to me

Last Whirlwinds were withdrawn in late 1943, this maybe the 137 Sqn aircraft that was reputedly put back into the air by the Luftwaffe.
If was taken at St Nazaire, which is Brittany, then this would more than likely be a 263 Sqn unit machine, as this was their main area of operation.
