Lets see how ebay wriggles out of this one
http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/724-full.html#193360
The owner accepted a higher offer for the aircraft outside the ebay system and will not accept the last minute bid by a Sniper.

And Yuri didn’t see that coming?????
And was he ‘all shook up’
Oh the bitter, bitter irony of that cretin suing anybody over issues of fraud/honesty/ethics. 😡

What on earth did she drive into it with? The entire land warfare hall?????
*Bats eyelashes*
Well it seems that a Ford Focus is more than a match for the likes of the mighty Chieftain…
*Bats eyelashes again and reverts to looking pretty vacant*

If eBay selling is for mugs, then I must be a fully classified moron by now having made over £2000 on eBay in the last year just selling bits and pieces lying around the house :diablo:
Mugs, cups, plates etc?
By: Ashley - 10th October 2006 at 13:14
eBay selling is, imho, for mugs!
And yes, I have been described as a large coffee cup occasionally!

Having sold a car with just such a statement on there, I don’t follow the logic.
Did the description go something like “one red volvo with cracked number plate for sale…”?

With a successful bid on an item, I’ve had the seller pull the item from auction because it wasn’t fetching enough. Hardly ethical. People who set a start price lower than what they are happy to expect are simply being foolish.
Ebay has been a tremendously useful tool for me. I’ve found so many parts I wouldn’t have dreamed I’d ever find thanks to Ebay. What saddens me though is that there are a growing number of people trying to make huge profits from the sale of old aircraft parts when I’m more concerned about getting missing parts back into the aircraft they came from. I’ve given heaps of stuff away for free over the years just to see it go back where it belongs. Enthusiast vs Profiteer I guess.

BTW has anybody got the Wirraway seller ebay account name… I wanna look at his feedback comments!!!!!!!

No, Ebay is not the be all and end all, not by a very long way. As you can tell, I am a fan, and currently use it to my advantage. It is not however my only means of selling.

I put something on EBay to sell last night, with the customary ‘Don’t ask me to end this item early, I prefer to let the Auction run it’s course’
Lo & Behold I get an email this morning offering me ‘good money’ to end it!
By: Dave T - 5th October 2006 at 14:47
You cannot retract the bid during the last 12 hours of the listing, unless the seller agrees.
Ah, there you go Mark, i thought so.
Yes, i must admit to the odd chuckle when i see sellers description includes wording like… “bid now, dont wait until last minute as i will end auction at T-minus 5 minutes” as i’d like to see them try it ! 😀
By: Bruce - 5th October 2006 at 14:44
Relax Bruce, I’ve never seen any evidence that the aforementioned “buyer” has ever sold anything, as his reputation precedes him by quite a distance!; he certainly wasn’t rushed off his feet the last time I saw him.
Stuart,
Hey, I dont care – if he can get that for them, then good luck to him!
Bruce

Mark,
Are you sure about that ?
I’m sure that’s what the bloke said, but less sure about his motives.
As a seller myself, the eBay system prevents withdrawing an item if it has bids and less than 12hours to run (used to be 24hrs).
Indeed. I do wonder if he never actually tried to end the auction early or was merely using it as a device to try to get people to bid early.
Incidentally, is it possible to cancel bids within the last 12 hours? Not sure, never had to do it on any of my auctions, but if so could you remove all bids and then end the auction early???
[edit – looks like Trumper answered my question before I’d even asked it!]
Blimey, eBay and Douglas Bader don’t ‘arf get this forum going don’t they?!!!

yuri geller (spoon bending bloke) is taking one seller to court in exactly the same circumstances.
he won one of elvis presleys old houses, but the seller then decided to sell it someone else.

I believe you can withdraw a bid made if there is reaonable grounds ie you put the decimal point in the wrong place and bid a £1000 instead of £100.
For a seller to pull out early
How can I end my listing immediately?
If needed, you can end your listing before the scheduled end date. If there are bids on your item, you can cancel them.
Reasons for ending listings early include:
* The item is no longer available for sale.
* There was an error in the starting price or reserve amount.
* There was an error in the listing.
* The item was lost or broken.
To withdraw from buying;
Can I retract or cancel my bid?
A bid may be retracted (cancelled) by the buyer in some cases if the retraction meets the requirements of our Bid Retraction policy. Note: There is no equivalent for bid retraction in Buy It Now listings. Once you’ve confirmed your purchase, you are obliged to pay the seller. There is also no equivalent for bid retraction for item listings using the Best Offer feature.
Whether you can retract your bid or not depends on the following factors:
*
Why you are retracting your bid;
*
When your bid was placed and when the listing ends.
You can retract a bid or a Best Offer for the following reasons:
*
You make a typographical error and enter the wrong bid amount. For instance, you bid £99.50 instead of £9.95. If this happens, enter the correct bid amount immediately after you retract your bid. If you do not place another bid, the retraction will be in violation of eBay’s policy and could result in your suspension. Please review the retraction guidelines if you need to retract your bid.
*
The description of an item you have bid on changed significantly after you placed your bid.
*
You cannot contact the seller. This means that you tried to call the seller, but their phone number doesn’t work, or that you have tried emailing a message to the seller and it comes back undeliverable.
You can only retract your bid or Best Offer at certain stages of a listing, depending on when you placed your bid:
When your bid was placed
Allowed
Not allowed
More than 12 hours before the listing ends
You can retract the bid with more than 12 hours left before the listing ends. When you do this, all your previous other bids will also be eliminated. So be sure to bid again if you are correcting a bidding error that you made.
You cannot retract the bid during the last 12 hours of the listing, unless the seller agrees.
Please contact the seller to request that your bid be canceled. However, it is up to the seller’s discretion whether or not to cancel your bid.
Less than 12 hours before the listing ends
You can retract the bid within one hour of placing it. In this case, only that bid will be retracted; any other bid you placed before the last 12 hours of the listing remains valid.
Restriction: Your total number of bid retractions in the past six months is displayed in your member profile. eBay will thoroughly investigate bid retractions. Abuse of this feature may result in the suspension of your account. Bids retracted within the last 24 hours of listing may be viewed as bid shielding, which is a serious breach of our policy.
To retract a bid, use the Bid Retraction form.
To retract a Best Offer, use the Best Offer Retraction form.

Dave,
I remember the same guy – but you are right about the rules.
Your French guy is clearly a fool. Dont ever start an item for less than you want it to sell for – though we are back to the point about ‘Value’ here. If you have a rare item, and no-one wants it, does it have a value?
Bruce
Does a tree falling in a forest where there is no-one to hear it make a sound? As with anything, the market determines the value, but there is a market beyond Ebay!!
