With the recent thread on Long Marston, there was a piece on the TV last weekend about the area becoming an Eco town. I wonder where Long Marston airfield would fit into the scheme of things,particularly the drag racing,pop shows and private flying ?

The piece on the news was the MoD owned rail storage depot, used to store all sorts of old stuff from locos to old coal merry go round wagons and coaching stock.
A huge amount of remediation would work would need to be done on the site and everything stored there would have to moved out, no easy task since some of the locos haven’t moved (I don’t know about engines turning over) for years.

I think it IS the airfield that is proposed for use as the new ECO town.
However LM is but one of three sites in the Midlands and a much larger number throughout England (or UK?) being considered for this proposal. I’m sure other airfields/ex airfields are included in the full list.
