With reports showing this service is proving an astounding success. (Load factors of 80% and above) what are everyone’s thoughts of the possibility of the service being upgraded to a 767 service?
Or is it perhaps more feasable (in terms of runway capacity) for it to go twice daily?
There have been rumours floating about of a 767-400 service, in tandem with the GLA-EWR route. I’m still figuring out if that is possible, again in terms of runway capacity (Length being a big factor)

EDI’s runway can take a 747, but a lightly loaded intra european type operation. For example football and rugby charters where they jammed to bursting with pax but low fuel loads.
A 767 going trans atlantic, I’m not 100% certain of that. Need to crunch some numbers.
767’s have operated out of EDI semi regularly to Spain, Greece etc. So it is possible to get of the deck with a full pax load.As for the upgrade… I wasn’t talking stright away, just hypothetically speaking, say next year after the schedules update.
Check this link for an EDI capable FAQ..

Hey Joe… when I get the date for my flights… care to take a snap or two of my flight leaving? It would be cool to have a photo of that

BM,
What could Edinburgh support in terms of Runway capacity??
EDI’s runway is capable of handling 742/3s? with 400+ pax to the US/Canadian east coast.
EAL proved this a few seasons ago. :p

Livery business of course.
With Adobe, I’d be lucky to get a company funded tea cake.
We usually share the corporation pickled egg around at our place.

Well, speak of the devil and he will appear
I just got word from a business associate.
I’ll be flying on the EDI-EWR service early september, connecting to an onward CO flight to NAS 😀 *jumps up and down*
I’m flying out to the Bahamas on business!!
Very nice, would that be Adobe business or livery business ?
I’m going to Moldova on business and Belarus and wherever else Scotland are playing their World Cup qualifying away games. Should make for interesting flight reports if nowt else ?

That seems to be the best possibility. Extra seats and a 762 will definately get off the deck from EDI with a Trans-pond fuel load
Problem is, according to CO’s website, the 762 holds more business class and less coach class as against the 752 (25/149, 16/156). I have flown on the 753 (12/210) but that was on an internal US flight and I don’t know what the configuration would be internationally.

I am hoping this will happen, but the problem is that CO don’t have the widebody aircraft to upgrade. But Bethune himself did say that if ‘we’ filled the 752 he’d put something bigger on. Biz class is already full for most days in August.
Regarding runway length, I’m pretty sure that anything CO operate to EWR could get off of EDI’s runway, it’s not that much shorter than GLA’s.
The AF A340 can get off SXM’s runway- which is less than 8000ft- non-stop back to CDG….

What about a 762 like the winter GLA service ?

BM,
What could Edinburgh support in terms of Runway capacity?
In terms of PAX; I would ‘think’ and I could be wrong that Edinburgh will see a lot of American originating passengers whilst Glasgow may see the opposite. Does anyone know if this is true?
I personally would be surprised to see an upgrade at such an early stage but you never know, if the demand and infrastructure is there; then why not?

i take the service is a 757 at the moment but if upgraded i think it should be another 752 or if the range 753
