Just to let all know, I’m meeting up with Silver snapper at EDI airport today.
12noon at the rusting diggers along side the taxiway at Ingleston. Also known as Spooks.
Anyone in the EDI area want to pop along, feel free. Look for a Blue Peugeot 406

just to illustrate
I’ve pointed out the conductive stripes with arrows.
Note how the tips of them are covered by the black ringd and that the strips lead all the way to the edge of the nose cone

Nice shot of the 757. Does anyone know why BA put that black circle around the nose of some of their 757 and 737’s? I like seeing aircraft with their spoilers deployed.
If you look at close up pics of a 757 or 737 nose (Almost all commercial jet aircraft noses for that matter) there are various raised strips leading toward the bulkhead where the nose is attached. These are metal strips that conduct any static electricity to prevent a build up which could interfere with radar and communications.
Now, the Black ring is of a special conductive paint designed to allow static electricity to reach the conduction strips in the nose much easier. This is present on all Boeing 727,737,757 and 767 aircraft. Most operators simply paint over it (no harm in doing so) but BA and a few other operators prefer not to, to get the maximum conductivity.

There are no UK routes from Stuttgart by Germanwings yet, so if EDI gets one it’ll their first.;)
I doubt Germanwings would have withdrawn EDI last winter if they had the aircraft… they are still acquiring
so Stuttgart could be a possibility for 2005 😎
Joe what have you done to Bmused?! You’ve changed him into another you! :p 😉
I don’t think he needed much tuition. 😉

That was a bit harsh, Bmused55 – the poor chap only asked a question!
Blame me…I was bending his ear yesterday! 😮 😮

Yes, this is the second (or third) summer they have been at EDI, they operate 5 times weekly I think until the height of summer when it goes daily. However, for the first time this year the service is going year round and will operate this winter. It is one of Germanwings strongest routes from CGN.
And hopefully soon to befollowed by Stuttgart or Berlin..
unless someone beats them to Berlin.? 🙂

That’s becoming quite a regular at EDI! 🙂
Its their only logo jet I believe.? 😎
By: Bmused55 - 5th June 2004 at 23:04
well its sounded more like a statement of they shouldn’t be there to me.

For what it matters, I didn’t think that Germanwings had started into EDI yet, either………… 😎

Why are there Germanwings @ EDI?? I thought they didn’t fly to EDI yet!
And just why the hell shouldn’t they be there?. Contrary to popular belief, Glasgow is not th center of the universe in terms of aviation in scotland.
There are a lot of germans in Edinburgh and its surrounding towns and cities. And no one here cab refute that….. I work with about 800 of them!
BTW, That Germanwings a320 flew over my head as I was heading for the airport.
Thanks also to you Joe for the brilliant conversation. Must to it again soon

Nice pic, I’ve also seen that BBJ at EDI before.
This Germanwings Logo jet took off before Sandy arrived.
