Hi all,
My first posting on this forum and straight to a big question…….
I have just taken on the post of Project Leader at the North East Aircraft Museum with a view to start restoration of EE Canberra TT.18 WJ639 early next Spring.
I do need a few parts to be able to accomplish this task and below are a list that come to mind although If any readers do have any Canberra parts please do not hessitate to contact me as they maybe parts we need that I have not thought of yet:)
1/ Tarrant Rushton Target Towing/Winch Pods
2/ Rear View Mirrors as fitted to a few TT.18’s
3/ Most access panels
4/ Door Handles and Locks
5/ Tail Aerials
6/ Plexi-Glass B.2 style Nose Cone
Thats all that comes to mind so far but like I said If you have anything Canberra please contact me
That all for now,
Phil Moore.

While we are on the subject of parts, can anyone help with this one off conversion that WJ639 was subjected to. As it would be hard to explain I have included some pictures! These are pods underslung from the aircrafts engine bay to illuminate the Tarrant Rushton Target Towing Pod….. Can anyone add any more information to this and what glass was used in this hole. I think it may have been something like a bedford truck headlamp etc because before it was smashed by vandals I remember it being convex (buldging from the pod).
Regards,
Phil
Can no one help with these light for the winch pods????

I remember the TT18s going through development trials at Boscombe Down. Perhaps they have a few spares tucked away in hangars/departments. I know we salvaged some TSR-2 bits and kept them in the instrument department.
The winches were designed and made at FR Wimborne, so perhaps someone who was employed at FR, in ‘Deepest Darset’, might have a few bits somewhere.
Long shots, I know, but not impossible!
Bri 🙂

Final bit for tonight Phil.
Ken Delve et al English Electric Canberra says:
Navigator; Another B.2 variant with sparse nav kit – radio compass. API and Tacan, although it also had the luxury of a single VOR.
…
Each window was provided with a Morris Minor car wing mirror so that the nav could watch the operation of the winches. The winch control packs were identical to the flight refuelling packs fitted to other aircraft and simply had different labels!

Hi Phil,
A fair amount for various marks.
I popped down to see Bex earlier in the year and we managed to dress up the inside of her Cranberry for photos from my collection box.
http://bexwh773.fotopic.net/c1269660.html
This allowed her to identify what was missing.
The attached photo is from CliffAir on this forum of his TT.18 main panel.
The previous photo was from a display at the Canberra retirement display at RAF Waddington.

Canberra cockpit
Hi,
I’m going down to the museum tomorrow to start an inventry list of parts up. I know most of the instruments were removed and stored away for protection but I guess there will be some items missing. Have you got many internal spares if I sent you a list once compiled??
Regards,
Phil.

Hi Phil,
Sorry no spares of those bits but what else are you missing for the cockpit interior?
A piccy comparing this page from the pilot’s notes with missing bits would allow visual ident.
Regards
Ross
