Hello
My father was in the RAF from 1980-2002. He asked me put on here whether anyone knows of this story that he was told.
I don’t know whether some people know this but some Chief Techs are qualified to do ground runs test in aircraft when they have been worked on.
One Chief Tech was doing an engine test in a Lightning when he accidently engaged reheat and had to take off in it. He landed it back but don’t know of what the outcome of actions were.

The story is also in my Lightning book, published a year or so back (Ian Allan Publications).

I hadn’t seen the original thread beofre. It is great to read such a vivid and honest account of a misha[p that could hav had tragic consequences both for the “pilot” and potentially people on the ground as well.
