This time a query from me! I’ve been doing some work on the development of the Lightning. I’ve come across conflicting info on the fate of XA853. Everyone agrees that it was scrapped in 1965, but one source I have states it was scrapped at Warton, while another say’s Boscombe Down. Anyone know the truth ?

RE: EE P.1B XA853
I have a pic of XA847. Can’t find any codes on my other Lightning prints (cockpit shots etc). Anyone know where this is? I believe Bee Beamont is at the controls.

Looks like you’ve got everybody stumped on this one Keith ?? , there was a pre-production Lightning in the Marine Salvage yard at Portsmouth about 2-3 years ago , anybody know which one it was ?? , if I remember correctly it was turfed out of a museum to be replaced with a Lightning which was more representable of RAF aircraft .There was a T-33 lying next to it ( ex- Ormonde Baillie ??) anybody know the serial of this ??? , the yard is a toyshop for adults , full of big engines!!!
