EGBO Eatery

Well the cafe at Wolverhampton has finally had a facelift, well complete revamp actually and a change of ownership.

It opened for business today in its new guise and the refit looks good, the menu simple but sensible, and reasonably priced. At least we can now grab something to eat when we visit EGBO.

Thinking about this led me onto the subject of EGBO in general. Obviously the lack of restraunt has led to a few moans by visitors both aerial and ground based alike, but as a general rule the airport does seem to have a diverse range of commnets about it. Some folks love it and seem to go back on a regular basis, rotors running refuel for the helicopter fraternity always seems popular at EGBO so why the huge range of opinions about this airfield ?

I flew from wolverhampton 4 1/2 yrs ago during my flying scholarship, and di my solo on the ‘downhill’ runway, interesting to say the least!

I used to be a staff cadet at cosford on bulldogs with a guy who was working his way up in the control tower, I forget what his job title was, ATCO or somthing like that.

To be honest nothing there ever really bothered me about the place, but then I was just interested in the flying and as long as I could do that I was happy!

Then again I have found a nice looking ANTOV for the same sort of money, size matters, but I might be getting a little ahead of myslef dealing with ANTOVS.

What on earth is ANTOV?

I have often wondered this, the place must be to some peoples tastes yet not to others, to be honest there has always been a few shocked faces when it comes to visiting pilots discovering the landing fee, yet when you come to think about it is £15 a lot to pay for full ATC approach etc? having sampled the polished up cafe I was impressed actully with the amount I got to eat for my money, quality too. (not that much could be worse than the last owners attempts)
