Egypt plans to develop Advanced Trainer!

EGYPT PLANS TO DEVELOP ADVANCED TRAINER:

CAIRO [MENL] — Egypt plans to launch development of an advanced air trainer.

Officials said production of the first such jets could begin in 2005. They said Cairo would assemble and produce much of the plane in cooperation with unspecified foreign suppliers. This would include Egyptian design and production of the fuselage.

Magdi Hatata, Egypt’s former chief of staff and head of the Arab Military Industrial Production Association, said the production of the advanced trainer would come after the current K-8 project is completed. Egypt’s air force has ordered the K-8 basic trainer in a coproduction program with China.

The advanced trainer has also been designed to serve as a light fighter-jet. No further details were provided.
