I noticed this has not been mentioned on here yet, so I am just wondering whether it is true or not, and if anyone else has heard anything about it at all?
Emirates Airline announces plans to buy Airbus
EMIRATES AIRLINE HAS ANNOUNCED PLANS TO BUY European manufacturer Airbus. A spokesman for the Gulf carrier, which boasts a massive order book with Airbus of more than 90 A380s and 70 A350s, said: βWe believe this will be a sound move for all concerned. We decided that we were spending so much time negotiating with Airbus for aircraft purchases that enormous cost savings would be made by simply buying the manufacturer.β An Airbus spokesman, confirming the bid from Emirates, said: βThis is an industry first and just one more example of the sort of consolidation many have been talking about.β In response to enquiries, Boeing declined to comment, but did confirm that Emirates had a lot of orders with them too.

Certainly an “industry first”…and could be very interesting if indeed it were true, but I am somewhat sceptical seeing as this has not been spoken about on any other website, so I am wondering if I have fallen victim to a prank here. I know they say never to believe everything you read in the press/media, but with the rate at which the aviation industry develops, a move like this might not seem unlikely at some point?:o
If it is true, surely this would create a conflict of interest between EK and Boeing, seeing as they (Boeing) rightly point out in the article that EK do have a lot of orders with them as well as Airbus, including the the x30 Boeing 777-300ERs which they ordered on 19th July 2010 at the Farnborough Air Show.

It woudn’t be an industry first in any case. Please look at the history of United Airlines and the airlines that merged together!

I don’t think EADS will be willing to sell or infact, will be allowed to sell Airbus off to EK.
The media is giving too much credit to EK.

Fascinating. I presume that if true that it would only be the Airbus part of EADS? Can’t imagine any defence parts of the company would form part of the deal. But in this day and age who knows…..maybe wikileaks will have something;)

Just looked on both Airbus and Emirates Group sites – nothing
Hi Cloud9
Both Airbus and Emirates Group web sites news pages (a few minutes ago) show only news reports nearly a week old and not a ‘peep’ about this.
It will sure be a ‘first’ if it goes ahead.
