EL AL at JFK picture

I know it isn’t much but it was all that was really worth taking a shot of on the taxi out yesterday. We had diverted to JFK the previous night due to low ceilings at our destination and after 3 failed approaches we flew here. You can still see the ceilings are pretty low as the control tower is partially obscured. Sadly on the taxi in during the evening we passed the Concorde but I wasn’t ready with the camera and our taxi out in the morning didn’t take us past where it was parked. Darn it. I was really hoping for a Concorde picture.

i’ve often heard of scenarios like this on the scanner. One day when LUFC were in Europe we were fogbound overnight and a/c were stacked in the hold, a Monarch A300 asked what the weather was like, and his response was “we’re 10 miles away and can see right down to the ground! – He diverted to manchester!

We just finished the final certification for CAT 2 just a few months ago so as long as both crew members have been trained we’re allowed now down to the full 100′ DH. Sadly our original destination didn’t have a CAT 2 approach so we ended up at JFK which was VFR at the time. Amazing what a difference 40 miles can make. 🙂

EGNM, I haven’t done a lot of flying to JFK but it is one of my favorite places to fly to just for the variety of aicraft alone.

Is it Cat 2 on the ERJ, WD, or can you do Cat 3?

Nice pic WD. Well done on such a clear shot considering the poor weather conditions. I see you also managed to get a Travel Span 757 in the shot too. 🙂
