What?…
Rosco, what do you mean, “corrupt socialists”? Chirac is not a member of the French socialist party. He is the figurehead of the right in France.
In any case, the choice was not so much about his politics as about the alternative, and I am sorry to say, given that LP has no track record at this level of governance and that some of his policies would have thrown France, possibly Europe and even the world into turmoil there wasn’t much choice.

RE: In the spirit of 1940…
Rosco ,
I respect your opinion even if I don’t share it.
Yes it’s a nice day for our country our the the shame of April 21th.
Now Chirac has to put his butt in gear in order to avoid the “black death” to come back.

In the spirit of 1940…
Damn it, why are so many so enamored of corrupt socialists? They had their chance and {as usual} screwed up nicely.

Le Pen, the left’s whipping boy…
I hope for total victory for the FN, enough of Chirac and Jospin and their Vichy politics! {Maybe as a bonus Le Pen will be able to persuade Quebec to separate from Canada and thus solve a lot of problems here in Canada as well.}

RE: Elections in France #2
It’s probably a case of the British media exaggerating as usual (about the election problems). I think they’re doing that because we’re expecting election problems of our own on Thursday (today in fact).

RE: Elections in France #2
We haven’t experienced any big trouble in Paris about this election (so far).
The big demonstration yesterday went pretty well.
We have an other election in June (parlement) but I guess that all of this will over after next sunday . LP will be kicked out for good

RE: Elections in France #2
I’m quite concerned about the violence in Paris surrounding these elections. Will this all have died down in June? I certainly hope so because I will be in Paris then and I would hate to be caught up in anything nasty.
