I, and no doubt other members listened to the Jeremy Vine radio show today.
One topic I found interesting was about electric cars, not duel fuel, or petrol/electric hybrids, just pure leccy.
One interesting factoid was that most of us only drive about 20 miles a day.
The car is then plugged into the mains to re charge the batteries, overnight.(The electric one, that is)
A Peugeot “Chappie” stated his Companies car returned a range of 95 miles, the most of any electric powered car.I somewhat feel that this will not take off, the reason I submit is that if one wants to travel further than 95 miles, I for one would use my petrol engined car, and leave the all electric car at home.Also, what about the Carbon emmissions the power stations would expell to produce the electricity for these cars?.

Where will the electricty come from?
We’re told
Coal is bad…
Nukes are bad
Wind turbines cut up birds (and even the Kennedys down’t want to look at them miles off shore)
Solar: not there yet (and would it ever be that sunny in the UK?)
Aside from that, I’m for it.
I’d love a little city car, provided I can have a “real” car for trips, towing, fun, etc.

Leccy cars are for tree hugging lefty Yoghurt Knitters.
I have two fast cars that gobble up petrol one is a Honda Prelude 2.2VTEC and the other is a Subaru Impreza. I may now only drive 50 odd miles a week but I don’t hang about getting where I am going. I pay the price for this but who cares I maybe getting on a bit but I have not slowed down.
BTW I am a Moderator on PUK(PreludeUK) although it has a worldwide membership and if any member here has a Honda Prelude or any car with a VTEC engine please come and join us.
You will also see how a large bunch of mainly 20-35 year olds behave.

Hi Bob, Nothing at all that I listened to gave any figures as you have re the replacement batteries. If the batteries cost that much, I wonder what the initial cost of the purchasing would be ie, the car itself. Also, nothing was said about the speed the cars would be able to travel at, Salient points conveniently skirted round.

Electric cars are too expensive to buy,still produce carbon emissions albeit at the power station from where the electricity is provided.
More importantly they don’t make a vroom vroom noise !:)

Battery life is restrictive – expect to pay anything up to 7k every few years when they die!
And don’t you dare park them in a disabled space….:D
