The internal combustion engine has had decades of research, development and refinement to get it where it is today. However, even though you are removing petrol or diesel as a fuel, you still need oil-based products for lightweight plastics and for lubricants as well as limited amounts of hard to obtain precious metals.

The electric car is just in its infancy. It sounds good, but it will not change the increasingly oil dependant world.

quite correct !! but oil goes far further than mereley plastics etc

for each barrel of oil only half is used as fuel the rest is used in the following ( and a lot of these will probably suprise some )

That’s it in then – a motorbike caught fire – sounds like batteries are very hazardous. We’d better stop using them in our PCs, cameras, aeroplanes, cars…. actually pretty much everything.

have you ever actualy looked into the areas where these batteries are actualy produced ??

for miles around there is very little vegetation , and most watercourses are barron of life

and how green are electric cars ??

eventualy the charge will run out so you will need to plug it in the end result is a power station which either burns fossil fuels , is nuclear or an alledged green alternative

batteries in small groupings are ok but we are talking large groups and tightly packed and to provide the same zip a fuel engine will will generate terrific heat so there’s another drawback ( fine in winter ) but do you realy want to be sitting on top of them in a heatwave ??

the hydrogen car would make more sense but then comes the question

what impact would there be if everyones tanks were filled with concentrated natural ellements

the only surefire way of being green is either walking or cycling

if you want to push your foot down and go there are always going to be environmental consequences !!

a very serious potential saftey problem was braught to light regarding electric powered vehicles this week

an electric racing motorcycle caught fire in the pit area

due to the fact of the required tight packing of the batteries one motorcycle took 16 fire extinguishers to bring it under control ( whilst it was also spewing out highly poisonous fumes )

marshals recconed a normal fuel fire would be braught under control with 1 extinguisher

there is very little remaining of the bike what isn’t burnt is melted

imagine it on the scale of a car !! not for me thanks !!

UMMM a kind of super hybrid!! You are still lugging around a petrol engine to re-charge batteries ( Range 30-50 miles on batt only) Not all that green , carbon footptint during manufacture, small carbon footprint during working life & even bigger pollution to dipose of ( Batteries + Engine + Electric motor + Bodywork ) No doubt the engine will break down some time during its life , therefore you will need to revert to Mains power along with its associated polution. Batteries will probably last about 2-3yrs & need relacing at about £10.000 ( The batteries may be hired/leased on an annual basis ) more cost . Got to be a lot cheaper for main stream motoring , price is way over the top . Its not going to save the world —& I dont think Greenpeace will be waving any flags!!
