Elmer Wards Gulfhawk Bearcat

What happened to this after the crash? IMHO the best colour scheme to have for a display aircraft.

Quite possibly. TFC example was rebuilt in 1977 when is was re-registered as N700HL and then and some work was undertaken in the USA when TFC aquired it so it may have done to ensure that is was safe to fly in displays ect.

Does anyonce know it the Gulfhawk has the engine mounted yet?

There’s an article in Warbirds Worldwide no 24 about the rebuild of this Bearcat. Elmer says the wing only has a small box section & that over 4.5 g & you get aileron reversal & that Bill Fornoffs crash occurred from wing failure in turbulence, so he’s re-enforced the wing through the gunbays to the tips.
Has the TFC Bearcat had any mods carried out?

Not really. It is a spare-time project owned by some of the guys at Chino. At the moment they have a Tigercat in the workshop for a major rebuild, which is receiving attention.

I saw on the Plane talk forum (2008) enteries that it is registered to Steve Hinton which coinsidentaly is TF-51 Miss velma’s registered owner aswell.

I imagine with Steve and Stephens frienship it is a possibility that the bearcat could be operated by TFC.

But we shall only find out when it’s rolled out in Chino CA whenever that may be.

It’s in the workshop at Fighter Rebuilders. AFAIK it is owned by a consortium of some of the Chino guys (Steve Hinton, John Maloney, etc)
