New camera, so thought I’d have a bit of a play yesterday at the Battlegroup North event at YAM. Sadly I didn’t get any shots of Saturday’s flying from the Chinook, Yak, Sea King, JP and BBMF Hurri
The Museum’s usual residents, squatting on the airfield
Lindy’s place taken by interlopers!
Waiting patiently to come back in
Lindy on the QRA pan

Gannet in the fresh air
Lightning in the sun
Crusader
A few shots of Andre’s latest repaint, the Dakota

Jeep japery

Hellcat
Some of the hangar dwellers out for a breath of fresh air
The (hopefully running again soon) Buccaneer
Finningley’s former gate guard Meteor
Friday 13th
Flying control van
And a Kubelwagen
There was also lots of aviation memorabilia available on the traders stalls, but I think after returning from Newark with a Vulcan panel only a few weeks ago, coming back from this weekend with a Stuka tailwheel would have been a poor choice!

Ah great news:) I take it the installed Mambas are timed out?
No, just knackered! IIRC some chaps came from Rolls Royce, looked at it and said ‘go away and get another one’.

and these days, many Willys Jeeps are more Philipino parts than Willys, Fords have more Willys parts, and Hotchkiss’ are often more Willys due to French rebuilds!!! Nothing is as it seems when Jeeps are concerned!

Sacrelage!!!!!!!! shame on you Scott:eek::eek:, the only MV’s entitled to be called Jeeps Have Willys on the grille and chassis or are Ford GPA’s ;)-( even Hotchkiss’s don’t qualify).:D
Do you mean GPWs – GPAs are the amphibs
No MB ever had Willys on the grille – early MBs/GPWs had the name embossed on the back panel (script bodies) but even this died out by mid 42
Come to Jeep and Cheerful on 11th Sept and we’ll give you a lesson in jeep identification:diablo: You may need lots of Red Bull to keep awake though….

Gannet
I believe the museum are hoping to acquire a serviceable powerplant for her. The electrics are live and I have seen her all lit up. Fingers crossed the engine hunt bears fruit…

Thanks Blue, looks like a great little event.
Just out of interest is the Gannet still live in anyway?

I’ll be honest mate, that was running through my head while I was typing
By: Blue_2 - 10th May 2011 at 13:18
Shameless plug :diablo: :
Just remember where the Jets and Jeeps (or vice versa) event is being held in the summer 😉 we may even have a few jerries on hand as well :rolleyes:I couldn’t resist 😀
You’re as bad as that Twin Otter! 😀
By: Arabella-Cox - 10th May 2011 at 12:55
When I saw it engineless, I did hope that ground running was the goal. Can’t wait!

Tony’s doing some more work on the engines to make sure they’re 100% spot on before he tries them. Which would have been mentioned in the Flypast article on YAM a couple of months ago instead of the flip comment about the Mozzie having the engines and props back on soon, had they been able to speak to someone who actually knows what’s going on with that aircraft…
As Tony says, it has to be right as it’s perfectly capable of killing someone if it’s not absolutely right. When he’s happy with his pride and joy it’ll be back together and run. I for one can’t wait! 😀

vultee tony,s doing some maintenace on her nacelles before putting the engines back in prior to getting them fired up. 🙂

Pleasure.
What’s going on with the Mosquito? I was surprised to see the engines off and props stripped.

Very nice work Mr. Carr, had I figured it was you I’d have come said hello!
Some more of mine, first the Hurri. I lied, I got a shot on my phone.
Some I took when I went out Sunday morning to check on the jets.Lindy on her QRA pad
The ‘rod
Canberra and Herald. Rushed shot, hence the ‘downhillness’
Lightning and friends
Progress on the two DH’s

And the F8 Meatbox again
Outside again, series IIB FC Landy
Nothing there, honest…
And the mighty AEC Matador.
Pagen I’ll get some photos of the Pathfinder this weekend, just for you 🙂
By: pagen01 - 10th May 2011 at 10:24
The Gannet’s looking great these days!:)
Did anyone get a pic of the resident Chubb Pathfinder, it has to be one of the best around?
By: Arabella-Cox - 10th May 2011 at 10:07
Last lot, including a nice Boeing parts trike. It’s a shame the Hurricane passes were all directly over the site, so all we saw was the underside. Do the BBMF have to fly straight and level over the public as a condition of over-flying? A gentle banked pass around the edge of the site would have presented a much nicer view of one of my favourite aircraft.

Next set.

Here’s a selection of my aviation pictures. Unfortunately, with spending much of the weekend taking photos for the Wheels & Wings show website, almost all were taken with my 18-55mm lens, so I’ve had to crop quite a lot. I wasn’t always in the best spot as the sudden arrivals came over!
