Had a nice trip around Elvington, near to York, on Friday. I’d recommend it for those who haven’t been. Got some nice photos.
First one is, of course Friday 13th, their Halifax. I gather this is to be repainted shortly, with Free French colours on one side (to commemorate the two squadrons based at Elvington in WW2) and Canadian colours on the other side.

I’m guessing it’s not going to be for a few years yet. Last time I saw Tony, he was working on the radiators. The engines still needed to be rebuilt, the fuel system needs plumbing in, a lot of the other systems need work.

The brown and green wings are from the outer wing of a Handley Page Hasting, they were to be used in the Halifax Project but were deemed to be unsuitable so others were found.

Javelin
One of the volunteers said Tony Agar intends getting the Mossie taxiable

I was there a couple of weeks ago. Did you find the Javelin hidden away behind the T2 shed? Also, behind the Javeling where a pair of wings (green & brownsquarish looking) on a Queen Mary transporter – anyone know what they are? Unfortunately I was running out of film so didnt get a pic of them

Thanks for the comments guys.
I gather the Bucc and Victor taxi runs are detailed on their website
http://www.yorkshireairmuseum.co.uk
I was told by one of the stewards that their runway is 2 miles long – should make for quite an impressive event

A Victor would have given the 8th Airforce a bit of an edge 😉

Looks like it would be well worth the visit to go up there, if only to see the Halibag and the Bucc taxi about 🙂

May I gatecrash with this Harrier that was tucked away in a corner, seen during my recent visit to Elvington?
I met Bill Napier and his son Mark last year in the USA, and on my subsequent visit to Elvington they kindly showed me around the amazing stack of archive material. Thanks, lads! (If you are Forum readers). I do get out of Sweden occasionally!

Didnt Mr Agar want to get the Mossie taxiable?
It would be great if this happened, events similar to the East Kirkby ones could be put on perhaps and themed WW2 days for photographers?

Nice to see the Mossie in, almost, one piece. Last time I saw it assembled was the 50th anniversary roll-out.

If you,ve not made the journey up/down to Elvington then do yourself a big favour and go, the NAAFI does great food as well. If you dont come away with a good feeling all over then check with your Doctor.— You may also understand why a lot of people would like to see aircraft sent there for preservation, rather than be inturned somewhere esle.

A great set of photos and a great museum, will be even better when hanger number two goes up on the far side of the Canadian Memorial Hanger.
All they need now is a Beverley
Will be nice to see the Halifax in a different scheme, ive often thought the present scheme doesnt quite look right, shades seem to vary across the aircraft. I guess this is authentic however as im sure the paint wasnt top of the priority list back then.

Also one of their second Bucc – Looked nice in desert ‘pink’ even on an overcast day. Shame that the canopy cover was on, but I can’t blame them – March in Yorkshire is not exactly tropical.
