Phantom Phil and Lighty, PM’s will be inbound to both of you gentlemen later, once I’ve woken up properly! 🙂
By: lighty - 22nd February 2011 at 23:19
Believe me Blue 2, I wish I could spend several months worth of weekends helping out on Lindy I really do (to help out and muck in with the team, not just to blagg a free ride in her), but I’m over 3 hrs away and I work shifts so I would only be able to make the odd weekend 🙁
could you reccomend a good hotel for when I do make it over, preferably one with a pool, my lad won’t stay in any hotel that doesn’t have a pool

Wings & Wheels
Thanks for that Blue_2!!
After having a look on the YAM website I see no sign of a ‘Wings & Wheels’ event this year??
Phil.

Seafire and T-28 came last year for the Wings and Wheels weekend, as did the wing walkers, a Harvard and various other goodies. Can’t quite remember, as it was a busy but cracking weekend from my point of view! (Nothing to do with getting a run in the Victor on the Saturday, oh no…:D)
The Thunder Days are when we fast taxy Lindy and Kim, and slow speed demo the Bucc, serviceability permitting.
Then there’s the monthly anti-det engines and systems runs. Static, but probably the closest you’ll get to these types while running!
I too miss the airshows, I’m not sure what’s planned for this year, not much I suspect due to the current economic climate 🙁
As to the other matter, not as yet. Politics and all that… A few things have changed recently, I’ll pm you after I’ve seen the ‘lie of the land’ this weekend. Remind me Friday…

Thunder Day?
Blue_2,
What was the open day where the Seafire 17 and Skyraider turned up at, I think last year? Was is a Thunder Day?
The reason I ask is simply out of curiosity as I seriously miss the airshows at Elvington although seeing a few flying examples would be a good compromise 🙂
Also, any comeback on the PM I sent you a while back regarding the Lightning Association?
Cheers in advance!
Phil.

It’d involve at least several months of spending your Sundays chasing snags, getting cold, wet and frustrated, swearing profusely, losing skin and blood, cursing whoever’s bright idea it was to fit that component there and put that sharp bit there, wrestling with 50-year old fastenings, you get the idea. It’s great fun! And yes I do mean that, I’d not be involved otherwise. At the minute we’ve a good but slightly smaller than ideal team, and the bacon sarnies, very nice Sunday dinners and an inexhaustible supply of coffee to hand can only be a good thing! 😀

Thanks for the info Blue 2, great stuff 🙂
I’ll let you know when I’m coming over then, Hmmmm wonder how I can become part of the crew. . .even for just one day :diablo::D
By: Blue_2 - 21st February 2011 at 12:34
how will I recognise yourself to say hello (will you be the one with a cuppa in one hand and a bacon sarnie in the other ;):D)
Nope that’d be any one of the Nimrod crew! :diablo:
Enough pics of my ugly mug on the XL231 Work Diary thread; pm me sometime the week before you’re looking to visit so I know to look out for you!
ps do you let passengers in the cockpit on the fast taxy runs (for a fee of course!)
Sadly not, it’s crew only for taxy runs. The dreaded H&S…
Don’t forget you can also follow the progress of both us and the Nimrod on Facebook; just search for XL231 and XV250 🙂

Engine runs for Lindy and Kim (the Nim) first Sunday of every month, a good chance to get up close and personal with the big jets under power! I’m not sure about the taxying schedule just yet though. Keep an eye on the 231 work diary thread for updates 🙂
By: lighty - 21st February 2011 at 07:41
Yea I will do Blue 2, Thanks for the invite 🙂
When is lindy out to play next and will it be just to run the engines up or a full blown fast taxy?
ps sorry I didn’t reply sooner, had a lot on lately 😮

Probably be about April before we do a Thunder Day again Lighty, and we love Lindy too even though it’s rare I come away from a working day with her without having had her draw blood! If you can’t wait till then we’re there working on her every Sunday, come say hi! 🙂
By: lighty - 12th November 2010 at 10:44
Ohh Err missus!
Cracking shots those, I think I’m in love with Lindy 😮
when is the next open day/ set of runs?, I’m on permanent days now so I’d be able to visit one weekend (show my support and all that).
By: Blue_2 - 12th November 2010 at 09:54
NevH, not yet, the Dak’s still a work in progress but WILL still be made to taxy. I believe a repaint is imminent, or even under way as well now, I’ll look on Sunday. The chaps working on her keep nicking our new pet Victor leckie too!
By: NevH - 12th November 2010 at 09:43
Love those Victor shots – Thunderbirds are go!!
I would be interested to know whether they have got either of the Dakota’s engines running yet? A couple of guys were hard at work on the port engine when I was at the museum back in May this year, and the aim was to get her taxiable.

Excellent Scott! Told you they were well worth posting! ;):)

Loved the Victor shots-it really looks predatory. Also the Anson .Have not seen one exposed like that since I last did a major in the 60s. Liked the dramatic skyscape to wind up too. Many thanks for posting Scott
