EMBRAER ATTENDS AERO INDIA 2003
Embraer will attend the Fourth International Aerospace Exposition – Aero India 2003. This year’s edition of the show will be held, as usual, at Air Force Station Yelahanka (AFSY), Bangalore on Feb 5-9. The airshow is one of the most important events of the industry in Asia and main players from around the world including operators, manufacturers, regulatory agencies and government authorities are expected to attend.
The Company will showcase in its booth at the show the features of its advanced trainer, ground attack and fighter lead-in AMX-T jet, the 4th generation light attack and basic/advanced/weapon familiarization training ALX Super Tucano turboprop, its line of military aircraft fitted with ISR Systems (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) and the EMBRAER 170/175/190/195 family of commercial jetliners.
Highlighting its attendance, Embraer will fly the Legacy corporate jet to Aero India 2003. The aircraft will be open for visitation during the event by authorities and attendees. Six months ago India’s Jet Airways announced, during the last edition of the Farnborough Air Show in England, its intention to acquire 10 Embraer jets as part of its fleet expansion program. Contractual negotiations are underway and a final agreement is expected to be ready soon.
World-class technology will be on display at Aero India 2003, providing business opportunities in aviation and related fields, specially regarding the defense market. It also features an International Seminar on Aircraft Technologies where leading defense companies and top management personalities from the aeronautical industry present papers. The show is therefore of special interest to delegates and professional visitors.
Bangalore, the venue of the show, is home to the Indian aeronautical industry and is fast becoming one of the world’s important research, development and information technology centers. Located strategically, with strong political and cultural affiliations with countries in Asia and the Indian Ocean Rim, Bangalore is an important focal point for the aeronautical, aerospace and software industries. Air Force Station Yelahanka is a training base for pilots of the Indian Air Force and Navy whose infrastructure and facilities are home to the air show.
Embraer Defense Approach – ISR Systems
It has become increasingly clear that a key requirement for an effective surveillance aircraft designed for military purposes is the integration of ISR airborne capabilities. Based on its highly successful EMB 145 regional jet platform, and integrated with state-of-the-art mission equipment, Embraer has created affordable, powerful, flexible and reliable solutions which are among the best suited and most efficient options available for defense forces around the world.
The Embraer ISR systems aircraft were originally developed for the Amazon Surveillance System (SIVAM) program in Brazil, which started in 1994 and now has reached full operational status. This is the only new generation ISR Systems currently operational and commissioned within the world’s most modern surveillance program: Brazil’s SIVAM Program.
The EMB 145 is a remarkable version derived from the highly successful ERJ 135/140/145 regional jet family, of which more than 600 units have been delivered to customers worldwide. These aircraft have a rugged, proven structural design developed specifically for high frequency use, and typically operate around 3,000 hours per year. The ERJ-145 platform was extensively modified to meet the demanding ISR mission requirements, as well as the mission equipment integration requirements. Embraer’s ISR product line comprises four different aircraft versions:
EMB 145 AEW&C – Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft, that integrates the Swedish ERIEYE radar. This system is already in operation in the vast Brazilian Amazon territory and has been also selected by the Mexican and Greek governments.
EMB 145 RS/AGS – Remote Sensing/Air-to-Ground Surveillance aircraft able to perform operations related to ground surveillance and remote sensing. Currently commissioned with SIVAM and operated by the Brazilian Air Force.
EMB 145 MP – Maritime Patrol aircraft for surveillance and monitoring Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) and territorial waters. This configuration has been selected by the Mexican government.
P-99 – Maritime Patrol and Anti-Submarine Warfare aircraft fitted with anti-surface vessel and anti-submarine warfare capabilities. Based on last-generation technologies, the P-99 configuration is currently under assessment by different defense forces around the world.
Embraer has become one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world by focusing on specific segments with high growth potential in the defense, commercial, and corporate aviation markets. With a commanding presence in the airline industry, Embraer aircraft fly for customers around the world. By basing all deliveries on proven strategies and practices, the company can meet scheduled development time, provide strong industry support and keep high expectations for the future.
Embraer develops and adapts successful aircraft platforms and judiciously introduces new technologies whenever it creates value by lowering acquisition prices, by reducing direct operating costs or by delivering higher reliability, comfort and safety. As a result, Embraer’s aircraft provide excellent performance with day-in and day-out reliability, being economical to acquire and cost-effective to operate and maintain. Equally important, the company offers a superior product package with comprehensive after-sale support for parts, services and technical assistance.
Embraer’s unique aircraft family design philosophy secures over 98 percent parts and systems commonality for the ERJ 135/140/145 family, and around 90 percent for the EMBRAER 170/175/190/195 family, as well as same crew type-rating. In addition to all the advantages of family commonality, Embraer aircraft offer excellent performance, lower basic operating weights, higher dispatch reliability, low direct operating costs and a long service life. All of this results in some of the best cost-benefit ratios in the industry.

Do you guys believe there is any chance of Indian Air Force purchase a few EMB-145AEW&C? Or maybe some ALX (AT/A-29) for training and COIN operations?
