Empire Of The Sun Mustangs

I am looking for information on the “Empire Of The Sun P-51 Mustangs” for a model decal project. I’m certain I now have all the images I can find from the www. I am however still wanting to see any pictures of the upper and lower wing surfaces which show the flashes/lightning bolts near the wing tips. I’m also interested to know did they vary between the aircraft used. Not so odd a question as the fuselage flashes varied a little between the three airframes used.

Did anyone catch the aircraft displaying and have any pictures which illustrate what I am looking for ? Any help that can be given would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Martin,

How about some decals for the REAL Mustangs of the REAL Squadron which carried out the REAL attack??? Please?? Pretty please???

The 118th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, a.k.a. the “Black Lightning Squadron.” Not the fake green/orange markings, but the real black/yellow version. I will give my right arm (well, almost) for a decal set for “Snooper”, actually a F-6K (PR version of the P-51K).

Know you probably want to depict a modern “warbird”, but there’s plenty of the real thing. Check out www.118trs.com.

Please and Thank you!
Michael.

Although I’m somewhat in agreement that there would be nice to see a sheet of PTO Mustangs, apart from some of the Catch-22 and Hanover Street B-25s, and earlier air racers this avenue has not been explored. So to Martin, go for it. If you are limited to this many different sheets that can be made, explore this side of aviation! Will the civilian MH434 sheet be available in other scales soon?

That’s what I though Daz. Although I have to say it was Missy Wong that I thought was the better looking aircraft.

Interesting link Michael. Maybe one day although lot’s of subjects that interest my personally I would like to do first. Never say never though.

I think Tugboat is the main one, simply for the “P-51! CADILLAC OF THE SKY” moment.

I haven’t seen the film in a while, but I can’t recall seeing the other Mustangs up close like that.

Many thanks for the pointers. I’ve seen and collected what seems like most of the pictures and thread links on the www. I don’t even want to think how many pictures of G-HAEC as BBD I have had to look at while seeking that elusive picture lol.

It literally is the flash on the wings that we now need confirming.

BTW I would be interested to know which airframe is the one that creates most interest ? Missy Wong From Hong Kong (as its a great scheme) or Tugboat because of the scene featured in the first image you linked ?

I think there have been a few threads on the Mustangs over the years.
