I watched ‘Empire of the Sun’ again a few days ago, and caught a glimpse of a Nord 3400 in Japanese markings.
Does anyone know which one it was?
Best regards,
Jan

Thanks, Moondance, that’s the one.
Now, which Nord 3400 was it?

That looks very much like it, yeah. All the film’s Japanese planes were suitably dirtied up to look well-used, so I would guess that’s the right one.

This one?….sorry, don’t know the ID.

I have a strong suspicion the B-29 fin is merely a mock-up, as is some of the Zero wreckage that can be seen later in the film.
I could be wrong, though.

There are three Nord 3400s in this country (Sweden), SE-XMS (c/n 39-808), -XNF (68-741) and -XNV (121-985), all of which were imported during the early 1990s from somewhere in the UK. Just wondering if it could have been one of those that ever so briefly graced the silver screen.
I found a French web site on the Nord 3400; http://www.nord3400.com/ENG/
It looks somewhat like the French response to the Auster AOP 9.
TexanTomcat, among the links to to that site, you can find a photo of AdlA T-6s and stories of ops in Algeria. 😀
Also, what about the B-29 fin? :dev2:

D’you know, the amount of times I’ve watched that film, I’ve never paid attention to it, but now that you mention it I’ve always wondered what that plane was!
