Official statement put on Thomson.co.uk today:
1 May 2005 marks the official end to the Britannia branded fleet as the long established brand makes way for the new Thomsonfly image.
TUI UK announced the airline rebranding back in September of last year as part of the company restructure and while the change has been on going since then, by May 1st the entire fleet will fall under the Thomsonfly name. This one brand will now run through both the company’s charter service as well as its growing low fares airline Thomsonfly.com.
Everything the customer sees such as the tickets, departure boards, flight codes (which changes from BY to TOM) the check-in desks and the aircrafts themselves will no longer be Britannia branded.
The famous TUI smile has linked the Thomson and Britannia brands for some time but this move is a step further in making Thomson the strongest brand in the travel sector.
Miles Morgan, sales and marketing director for Thomson said, “This marks the end of an era for a household name such as Britannia but is an important step for us in modernising the business. In this day and age it makes more sense for us to channel our efforts into one single brand name.”
Britannia Airways was formed in 1962 and has since established itself as the world’s leading holiday airline with a fleet of 33 aircraft which carries over 8 million passengers each year. It has been at the forefront of the industry from the beginning and Thomsonfly is set to continue the high level of customer care which Britannia is renowned for.
Sad that everything is finnally going, guess will have to change the code in my sig to TOM :(, good that its my name tho 🙂

i don’t the the TUI livery. Too blue. The britiania brand was a great brand and i’m very sad to see it go.

Love that new BY scheme. Few things about it though- its has a look of the new Monarch colours with the sweeping curvy blues. Think the Britannia head logo on the titles on the forward fuselage should be at the front.

I keep hearing public talking that they will get low cost holidays with “Thomsonfly” now thinking the whole company is the low cost carrier.

Maybe so Topjet, I too wondered about that, though when JMC changed to TCX they didnt give up the K and L codes, and when AMM changed to FCA, they didnt give up the C and D codes.
First choice will from May 1st.
