Might be the straw that broke the camel’s back?:(

Sad news indeed, even if they were a cargo-only airline.

The ramifications of this are quite bad though…not just for the employees of MK itself, but I suspect that it puts additional pressure on Kent International Airport (Manston) as that is where the majority of the cargo that they carried was flown into, and especially seeing as MSE doesn’t have much in the way of scheduled passenger flights to fall back on apart from a summer seasonal Flybe flight to EDI from 27th May – 30th Oct and a couple of other charters, it will probably hit them quite badly as well.

Also, it will hit Freight Feeder Aircraft Corporation (FFAC), who if you remember a while ago MK ordered up to 10 of the FF-5000 twin turbo-prop aircraft.http://www.aerospace-technology.com/projects/ff/ff4.html

TBH i think in the short term its a bit of releif for manston, they have had a lot of problems with MK of late, flights delayed for days, late flights, aircraft come in at the same time as other cargo flights putting a strain on the infrastructure, Meaning having to pay staff overtime rates and causing problems with opening times to remain compliant. Cargolux has been the main freight operator into KIA for a while and they are a model of efficency. Along with egypt air and meridian air, the frieght business will keep ticking along, with the former operator looking to expand, maybe taking over some of MK’S business, with charter flights, summer jersey flights and the well booked flybe edinburugh flights starting up soon, it was probably the best time for MK to fold as far as the airport was concerned. It means a lot less pressure and with ‘most’ of the other operators being well run and on time, the airport can get on with being professional and dynamic and build on its sucess by bringing in more operators that are a little less ad-hoc.

As i mentioned before, hopefully the Mk crew’s can find other work quickly, and hopefully they will be seen at MSE again soon, but with professional, well managed operators who pay them properly and on time as there efforts deserve.

Hopefully the new “Magma Air” will resolve a lot of those issues. Time will tell.

This has been a long time coming, but still sad news, i havn’t met many of the aircrew myself, but they seem to be some of the nicest guys going. I have heard they have been on 20% pay for about 5 months now and have had real trouble affording hotels and cab fares on overnight stops, and even had issues paying for fuel for the aircraft, which seem to be less and less well maintained, almost verging on being grounded.

If there is no future for MK, lets hope those crews get work elsewhere
