Obviously like most politicians you are oblivious to the thousands of families in urgent need of temporary homes. Had you had ever been part of a family rehoused for 16 weeks in one room, or a pensioner living in a damp caravan for 10 years (the gentlemen was 85 and of course a WW2 veteran when he moved in next to me) well if you do not think that is disgraceful that is your choice.
the fact there are dozens of ex RAF houses all over the country, some remote, others not, is ridiculous. These in turn become havens for all kinds of undesirable activity.
The fact that prisoners are being given them shows they can be used which in itself is appalling.
Now lets get to Lightnings…

I would guess 2-3 thousand pensioners could be housed at Coltishall alone, who are on the waiting list for decent housing which is quite frankly appalling. It would keep the houses in better condition as well.
Confusing comment? Just where exactly would you house all these pensioners at Coltishall (now known as Badersfield)? Perhaps in the old MQs: Oh no, they’re full of home owners. Perhaps in the Barrack Blocks: Oh no, they are full of Cat C Sex Offenders. I know, of course, the hangars and bomb dump are empty!

Very atmospheric shots. I’m surprised that crops are growing as well as they are.
As for housing all I recall is driving past rows of wrecked houses at Syerston, and I know a lot of very fed up folk, some who have come out of the services, and want to be rehoused as soon as possible. They have been waiting years for rehousing, not everyone has a nice company pension to show for it after years of graft. Plus its harder to get a mortgage in this day and age.

PROGRESS: The remains of the east facing main runway! Only re-tarmaced a couple of years previous to it closing?
West facing:
The memorable shot of Memphis Belle taking off from the lazy runway:
Always on Q:

I could ask exactly the same question of Benidorm each winter. I suspect that the only answer would be that it’s warmer than Coltishall!
It is actually cheaper, the cost of living, food, heating etc in the UK is more than wintering in a hotel in Spain where hotels fall over themselves to attract winter business..

 I’m slightly confused by the Syerston comments I know people that live in the former accommodation on the camp side of the A46; plus the recently opened new road has a major junction and footbridge to service that accommodation.
My understanding was that he former Mess site on the Flintham side of the A46 was actually sold by Crown Estates to a Muslim Foundation that briefly ran it as a school, which has since closed.

and when they shut the bases they dont mention the devastating effect on local community’s. Lincoln lost an estiamted £5 billion a year when Scampton closed for a while, and a gentlemen told me he didn’t know how they would cope without the support from Coltishall.
whats going to happen to Binbrooks lightning?
