energy bleed in delta winged planes

LAST EDITED ON 11-09-01 AT 02:32 AM (GMT)[p]planes like the Mirage with large delta wings bleed energy at a high rate while making turns. in a battle, this would lead to an unfavourable situation. how do delta winged planes overcome this inherent drawback?
i have heard that they dont go for close in turning combat but employ something called a slashing manouvre. can anyone explain what this is?
inspite of this major drawback, almost all of the new planes, the Rafale, the Typhoon, the LCA, the Gripen and even the chinese J-10 are all tail-less delta planes. why?
