Engine inlet valve ID question

Hi

I’d very much appreciate some help in identifying the provenance of an engine inlet valve I bought in a Normandy museum back in the mid 1980s. It’s unfortunately missing any stamps or markings. The length is 144mm, the stem is 14mm wide and the head is 78mm across. It’s sat on my shelf for the best part of 40 years and my curiosity would love to get closure on it! Hopefully the photos are of some use

Thanks

Neil

US Radial Inlet Valve!

Or, maybe a better thing to say would be, an inlet valve displaying US radial heritage?

It could still be German but the only real options there is the BMW-801 or earlier engines that ‘share’ ( ) the heritage of earlier US radial types!

Many thanks – I have amended the description accordingly. Having dug further and finding a trail dating back to 2015, it doesn’t resemble a Merlin valve at all so am guessing American or Axis but any further observations anyone is able to provide gratefully accepted. Best, Neil

I have no idea but, knowing a bit about engines, I offer the following observation.

The exhaust valve is usually smaller than the inlet valve. A nominal 3 inches (unless Axis, the dimensions would have been Imperial) is huge for an exhaust valve.

The Merlin has a bore of 5.4 inches and even the DB605’s bore is only just over 6 inches…
