Packard Merlin?
By: MerlinPete - 8th June 2009 at 15:29
Thanks Pete. Wasn’t sure on that one, but was I right about the intercooler?
Afraid not!
The two-stage intercooled Merlin is a Rolls-Royce design. Even the magnetos on this one look the same as the British BTH C6SE, but in reality are probably the US-built version. The only thing that is clearly Packard is the oil filter.

Incidentally, in reply to the other chap, all Rolls-Royce Merlins built between mid-1940 and 1945 were built without the name on the rocker covers.

I’m no doubting you’re correct, but how can you say Packard Merlin from that picture?
The Cuno oil filter below the CRV.

The spinner and prop hub are for the P-51 AERO-PRODUCTS propeller.
It looks to me as the engine is PACKARD 1650-3 or-7. It dosnt have -9
head and banks.

If it is from a P51 then it should be a Merlin 69, or a V1650

No “Rolls-Royce” on the rocker covers, and the intercooler, I’d guess…
& what appears to be a P51 spinner?
