I have been going through my old albums over the weekend and found this gem.
I was given this photo by a gentleman who visited us in the E.A.G. at Duxford in the 1980’s. It is of radial engines and propellors lying on a Pembrokeshire beach, at least that is where I seem to remember him saying where the location was. What type do you think these are from?, better still, does anyone recognise the location from the image, and can tell us where they are now. The chances of these remaining on the beach are probably zero after all these years..but you never know;)

I’ll go along with that.
There were a couple of Sunderlands beached and then foundered against rocks along that coast.Allan
You are probably right, I cannot help looking at the way they seem to have been ‘gathered’ together, rather than if the airframe broke up over time and deposited engines and props where they fell or dropped off the wings. They seem too condensed in a small area than heavy objects like that to ‘wash’ together.

A wild guess – Bristol Hercules ex Sunderland.

Also remember, beaches are not the static environments that many think. It wouldn’t take much sand to wash up there for those propellors to now be buried only a short distance down. In Aberdeen in the mid 80s the war time anti-tank defences on the beach reappeared in pristine condition from the sand for the first time in 40 years. They’d been engulfed by dunes within a year or so of being put in place.

I can say with some certainty that they are Pembroke propellors 😉
