English Electric Preston

Dear all – I have a mounting for a DF loop screen which has several EEP stamps on it – this is most likely from a bomber or transport aircraft.

I don’t know what aircaft it originated from, but I know that the EE factory at Rootes made Haliaxes. Can anyone tell me what wartime/postwar aircraft were made at the Preston factory?

Thanks guys

There are part numbers but nothing I recognise – they have GR and SK prefixes. Either way, it’s surplus to requirements.

I’ll try and post a pic.

Cheers

Hi Elliot
During the war Preston/samlesbury built Hampdens and Halifaxes.
Post war they built Vampires and canberras.

EEP definitely would be Preston/samlesbury inspection stamp.
some details here…

Pre jet, I don’t know.
But the Preston works (Now gone and replaced with a Harley Davidson shop, Aldi etc) made the structures for the Wren, Kingston, Canberra, Lightning and bits of the TSR2. Parts were then shipped to Samlesbury (Warton too) for glue-up/paint n fly.
They also did the Jaguar, bits for Concorde, Tonka, Hawk and laterly bits for the EFA (Later Eurofighter then Typhoon).
They would have made parts for many of the A/c of the day, Preston works had a sheet metal shop 2nd to none.

Can’t tell you that, but my Grandfather worked there in the loco build sheds in the late 1930’s….:)
