EoN Eton info

A few years ago I came across a derelict Eton it has a number of damaged parts and also missing parts . It is with the collection at the Aeropark , East Midland Airport,.
It would be nice to see it restored to its former glory. We have no manuals, drawings or sources of spares. Which is were we hope you come in with the vast knowledge of the members on this forum can someone point us in the right direction.
And is there any way we could find out its identity.

regards

Dave

There has been a suggestion it could be one of three gliders WP266,WP271 or BGA2493 ??.

Is there any chance you could upload a photo of any of these parts showing the numbers?

The numbers where on the wing spars in one wing there is nothing at all on the fuselage
and we have now recovered the wings after repairs. The numbers where all stamped together with what appeared to be circular inspection stamps
but these where unreadable.

The Eton TX MK 1, as it was known in military service, was the EoN (Elliotts of Newbury)Type 7 Primary, their version of the D.F.S. 14 S.G. 38 primary glider. I have a list of construction numbers v BGA / RAFGSA / RNGSA identities. The construction number looks like this: EON/P/ xxx – if you can find this on the airframe, I can let you know what you have…,

Can you help we have an unknown Eton Primary th eonly numbers we can find are as follows. B7/W123 and PE/APS/ and either 059 or 259 its not very clear. Any help appreciated.

Dave

Eton was the military name for the EON Primary. To the best of my knowledge there is no difference between the mil and civil aircraft. There is no plate for the construction number and I think you will be unlikely to find one the glider. My EON Eton has no construction number anywhere on the glider. There should be a small sunken area on the fuselage where the construction number would have been either painted on or printed on paper and stuck to it.

Thanks to both for your responce. It came to us via another museum and they no nothing of its history . Since we got it nothing has been done with it as with most museums space has been a problem but with the new building on its way up there is a chance it could go together.
This was the first attempt to find out about who may be able to help as l have seen threads on here about gliders and so know that there are people who know about them on here.
So where might l find the construction number is it a plate on the body or a stamp.
Also are there any differences between a civil eton and a military tx.1

Good morning Dave,

Sounds like a good project (I co-own an airworthy Slingsby Grasshopper, the ‘other’ Air Cadets primary). I trust you have been in contact with the archivist of the Vintage Glider Club regarding drawings? Parts are somewhat hard to come by, but some of them are still out there. As for ID, I may be able to help out, if you have some more details on its history prior to it coming to East Midlands.

Eric
