Does anyone know if any books have been published or are there any articles on the UK Elementary Reserve Flying Training Schools and later EFTS? I am specifically interested in how they operated and the aircraft used.
I have some basic lists on where they were and who initially ran them but I am seeking a bit more detail spefically on Nos 11, 14, 17 and 44 ERFTS an also 21 EFTS.
Any guidance much appreciated.

Many thanks to everyone for all your kind replies – far more than I expected.
I would like to follow up a couple with PMs if that’s OK. I always feel that there is a treasure trove of knowledge on this forum and I am very rarely disappointed.
DH83 – Thanks for the heads up. I believe I might have that actual copy of Aviation News buried up in the attic as I think I had most of them in the early 80s.
Best Regards

I included a number of references to EFTS and ERFTS in the Haynes Manual of the Tiger Moth (this isn’t a sales plug honest!)
In particular we obtained permission to use Ron Gilman’s superb first hand account of soloing at 11 EFTS at Perth in winter 1940, as a key element.

EFTS’S
in Aviation News February 1981 page 7 lists EFTS,s which covers the ERFTS, also… page 10 has FTS and SFTS listed.

ERFTS/EFTS ETC
There is not a great deal about ERFTS/EFTS in it but it does give an explanation of aircrew training at these units in the first chapter. Suggest you ask your library to get a copy unless you have an interest in OTU, HCU, AGS and AFU which is more detailed in the book.
Cheers
Tom
