Got an e-mail today, supposedly a message from a member of ebay, and the e-mail address seems genuine, and the member does exist…. but what confused me was that i don’t actually have an ebay account!
The message confused me even more, as apparently they bought an item off me, paid me but i haven’t delivered it, and apparently they’re threatening to call the police?! Only thing i can think of is the wrong e-mail address on some guys profile, but i can’t contact ebay about it as you have to be a member!

My advice is just to ignore it as well. I wouldn’t even take the time to respond, explaining that if this email is genuine, then it is a mistake.
I had an email last year from what was supposedly eBay and it told me that eBay was updating its records (!!) so it requested my user names and passwords for both that and PayPal. Stupid me happily sent the information back via email.
A couple of minutes later, I realised my mistake and quickly changed all the passwords.

I’ve had it another two times, exactly the same one! I’ve clicked on ‘spam’ on my yahoo mail so i shouldn’t get any from that e-mail address any more

Well this is funny, I just got one in my inbox! Stupid spammers! The funny part is the weblink actually goes here: hxxps://signin.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn (DO NOT CLICK ON THAT DUH). Just like Deano said, the actual address shows up in the status bar at the bottom of your screen.

Rlangham
In Internet Explorer make sure you have your status bar showing at the bottom, open up your email of this, place your mouse cursor over the web link they have supplied, if you see .http://www.ebay.co.uk/xxxxxxxxxx then it is probably geniune, if you see .http://32.65.195.45.www.ebay.co.uk/xxxxxxxxxxx where the 32.65.195.45. is a made-up number from me and xxxxxxxxxx would be the rest of the address then it is a hoax and they are after your money, the ip address at the start of the http:// will be the re-route address, as soon as you sign in to it they will have your eBay details had you been a member.
Hope this helps
Dean.
p.s. do not click the links 🙂

This is just spam. They want you to enter your credit card number or something into a website so they can trick you out of a lot of cash. I get these all the time and I haven’t been arrested yet 😀

Let them call the Police Rlangham. It’s probably someone playing a prank or an email sent to the wrong person.

I’ve been having a root round on ebay for you and have come up with this link –
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/safetycentre/spoof.html
It talks about spoof and phishing – maybe an email to them? – spoof@ebay.co.uk
Good luck!
