Hi all
Some years ago I read a book which I believe was one of Ernest Ganns but cannot recall which one!
In the book he relates taking off in a Liberator Cargo aircraft from a tundra airfield where the sun had melted the permafrost beneath the asphalt and as the take off progressed he created a bow wave of runway in front of the nosewheel.
Does anyone recognise this passage and can identify the book please?
Many thanks

Called LB-30’s I believe. Might have been in ‘The High and the Mighty ‘
Not unless it was in a “flashback”.
Or Island in the Sky!
That one primarily features C-47s…but it might be in there since Gann himself flew Libs in the tundra and the novel is based on his experiences…it’s been years (decades) since I read it.

Lots of Liberator flying in Fate is the Hunter, but that part isn’t in it.
