Ouch!

Is it repairable?
In other A340 news an EK A340-600 is grounded at Entebbe multiple bird strikes.
That kind of structural damage would cause warping of the whole body. That kind of thing even is strictly not allowed as aircraft are put under alot of stress.
Maybe they can save things like rudder but fuse will no doubt be a write off.

Tolouse AI quote
An AI quote (a couple of days old)
“Three crew members, of which two from AIRBUS and one from Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies, were severely injured. Others were also injured but have been attended to by medical staff and were released from hospital.
The consequences of this accident could have been far more tragic and this morning we have had reassuring news about the medical condition of the most severely injured.”
Perhaps the ‘humour’ and ‘speculation’ should wait a bit………..

The crew are lucky to be alive!

Does Airbus self-insure during ground tests? If so, that accident is a severe blow to Airbus finances.

Just hope Airbus have “protected noclaims bonus”
Glad no one was seriously hurt that sort of impact could have resulted in fatalities…
Cheers

A Brand spanking new A340 will set you back £107 Million.

I’m amazed no one has been sent out with a brush and a big bucket of white paint! How much does one of those cost at list price?
When is the next free delivery slot ? Going to cost a few £,$ or whatever in late delivery charges.
Wouldn’t like to be the man on the phone to Etihad ” I’m sorry sir but theres a snag with your next plane”
Be lucky
David

Losts in test flights are relatively common. I wouldn´t compare it with the accidents in normal commercial operations.

looks like someone attempted a burnout…. 😮

That’s a write-off, a source for spares.
That sound barrier is made of concrete.

Let’s face it ..it’s been an Annus Horribilis for the A346

From the link above, scroll down the thread. A picture shows the cockpit 90 degrees to the fuse.
It may not be a write off, but some serious rebuild is required.
By: symon - 16th November 2007 at 00:16
That looks very serious. The cockpit looks like it is very damaged and in a terrible position, hope the test crew are going to be ok. Just goes to show at no point in the aircrafts life can you assume it is totally ‘safe’.

Video of the accident scene here. TV news (of course) suggesting it is a write-off. The cockpit is almost separated from the fuselage.
