Eurofighter Typhoon for Duxford

I was having a browse through Duxford update and it mentions that the currently been resprayed F15 needs to be finished quickly to make room for a Eurofighter Typhoon prototype.

The big question is which one as i think there is only the one that was at Conningsby (i think it was) that is left or is there more?, or does anyone know which one it is?

Let’s face it, we’re not likely to need to defend against a mass bombing raid by the combined forces of a Russian/Taleban/Zombie Nazi air force anytime soon

You forgot the New Zealand AF, a real powerhouse looking to make trouble. 😀

And with respect Bruce, a little thread creep should be permitted – we’re still talking airyplanes and not the best percolator to buy…

I’m quite partial to the Braun KF550 myself.;)

Either way, nice to see a Typhoon at IWM, even if it hasn’t got a Sabre on the front. Hopefully in a decade or so, an operationally representative example will be found to accompany it.

The MPs you mean? 😀

Goes without saying…

I’m sure as taxpayers we’d prefer not to see our money wasted on keeping a larger fleet of non-essential assets running…

Can we get back on topic please?

If you wish to discuss the operational nature of the current Typhoon, or indeed the imminent retirement of the Tornado, could I point you at the Modern Military Forum?

With the recent news that half the Tornado fleet is being retired early even the knackered Typhoons may be needed….

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/defence/5151936/Shut-down-of-RAF-squadrons-to-go-ahead-a-year-early.html

EIGHT* aircraft left to defend the UK skies…….

So the Typhoons covering the other QRA at Coningsby aren’t there to defend the UK skies then?;)

Can’t see the fuss about the F3’s “early” demise (apart from those who work on/with them) – they were going in 2009, then put back to 2011, and the remaining aircraft will cover their only essential taskings – northern UK and South Atlantic QRA (which it’s in open source will be taken over by the Typhoon by the end of 2009). I’m sure as taxpayers we’d prefer not to see our money wasted on keeping a larger fleet of non-essential assets running, and offer better support to the really stretched fleets that need it, namely the support helicopters and air transport chaps and chappesses.

Hmmm.. as the saying goes never say never. Who would of thought that several airliners would be simultaneously hijacked and used as weapons of terror.. and now i believe virtually every western airforce is now on standby to shoot down any possible terrorist threat before it reaches its target, using fighter aircraft.

But hey what does it matter.. just as long as the home secretary’s husband can pay for his porn films with tax payers money.!;)

If I understand it correctly, and related to the Tornado demise, one the RAF’s most “historic” fighter squadrons (No 43 “The Fighting Cocks”) will be disbanded at Leuchars this September. Treble-One is likely to remain in existence, I gather. Sad if this little piece of RAF tradition should go. No place for sentiment or any sense of history when it comes to Defence Budgets.

And yes, I agree EN830. There IS only ONE Typhoon!

Hardly the point – our forces are being stretched to breaking point. OK the role of the services has switched from the glorious days of the Cold War and the threat of the red hordes from the east but that is no reason to reduce the abilities of the RAF to operate comfortably rather than scraping aircraft before they have been fully replaced.

Reasonably old news its just waiting to be moved and yes its DA4….unless of course they change it for the other one that isnt going to be rebuilt…from what ive just heard from a mate its sat behind the BOBMF hanger on a couple of low loaders….

The one that crashed in the US? Or the one that scraped it’s self all along the Conningsby runway?
