Euromanx competes with BA

Euromanx are advertising a new IOM-LPL service in competition with BA. It will operate Mon-Thu 5 per day ,Friday 6 per day, saturday 4 per day and Sunday 3 per day. Flight will be on their Beechcraft. This will mean there will be 3 operators now on this route BA, Keenair (who have the IOM hospital contract) and now Euromanx.Although it is a busy route it seems alot of carriers to me, maybe Euromanx know something and BA’s days are numbered ?

It does seem to have a lot of sticky out bits – maybe they came from the extra fuselage height of the 1900D over the 1900C.

737’s also have sticky out bits though – and they even have deformed engines!

I find it amazing that it got certified bearing in mind the large number of aerodynamic add-ons to make it fly right! Look at all the extra bits sticking out of it.

Yeah, it’s no oil painting. But at least it beats the 737!

The J41’s are also on long term leases, and not owned outright by BA. According to their last annual report, anyway.

Does anyone know how leases work? Could the lessee (BA) assign the lease to Eastern in return for guaranteeing the payments, or would the lessor take the a/c back and arrange a new lease with Eastern?

RE: Euromanx competes with BA

Apparently when and if they acquire the old BA J41’s both airlines will receive six of the aircraft each consequently disposing of the whole J41 fleet. Moreover, this will be period in which both Euromanx and Eastern become BA franchises.

Eastern makes sense, as it is a well run, profitable regional airline. Euromanx makes less sense; however, I could see the benefits BA especially with the Liverpool route. The basis of the BA regional routes is to feed on to the other larger airports (LHR, LGW, MAN, and BHX) but LPL doesn’t offer any BA connecting flights. A franchise agreement there between the two airlines could occur in the future which could see BA pull out of LPL altogether and leave EuroManx on the route.

However, BA seems to be streamlining their regional franchises at the moment, anymore seem to weaken the overall BA product so I’m not sure if this is all just rumour.

I’ve heard that rumour too Saab, not sure what truth there is in it.

Also, EuroManx and Eastern are both supposed to be BA franchisees in the near future. Eastern – well, I can half believe it. Eastern and BA work closely, Eastern is a mammoth J41 operator and his acquired a couple of EMB-145’s from BA too. EuroManx…seems a bit half cocked, that one.

Doesn’t Ryanair serve the market? They fly to STN (aka Liverpool South).

RE: Euromanx competes with BA

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-11-02 AT 01:45 PM (GMT)]BA and BD would rather dictate to people where they fly from and not what is actually more convenient to them, as so far as a Liverpool to London service is concerned. Euroceltic is operating LPL-LTN as an extention of a service from WAT to LPL. It isnt much of a service and is really more concerned with bringing Irish over to the Northwest of England. The airline has undergone a change in ownership since they were last at LPL so will we see if they are more reliable this time.

Easyjet has been rumoured tobe looking at LPL-LGW, this would be a very welcome connection, have to wait and see.

Euroceltic used to fly with F27’s but the schedule was somewhat erratic and infrequent.

LPL certainly needs better connections. I know I have slated John Lennon Apt in the past, but it does serve a big community and the big airlines (BA, BMI) seem to avoid it like the plague.

RE: Euromanx competes with BA

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-11-02 AT 08:45 AM (GMT)]Your right, Easyjet did operate LPL-LTN and yes it was a popular service, I used it many times and flights were mainly full or nearly full. It was a great alternative than the train (and often cheaper), people got used to arriving at Luton for travelling into London which before this service was kind of un-known to people of the Northwest. However about a year after the route started EZY had a major row with the owners of LTN regarding landing fees which they wanted to increase quite alot. Easyjet said this would make short-hop route un-profitable, the row went on for a while and the result was the LPL-LTN service stopped.

Since then the rail service has become much worse, and I think few would consider driving to London for a days business (dont forget congestion charges start very soon!!!). You wouldn’t think is was so time consumming to get around the UK !

Nothing’s been said Wysiwyg, but the management is local and they are expanding after a successful start to operations.

RE: Euromanx competes with BA

I didn’t realise EZY had stopped the LPL-LTN run.

Mongu – is there any news on whether Euromanx might start looking at brigning their flight operations in house with their own kit and crews? I have job hunting friends who would be keen to get a foot in the door.
