http://www.bellforeurope.org.uk/index.phpThanks To Everyone.

“Message from Martin
The disappointment of not being elected to the European Parliament must be balanced by the pride in what we achieved. We won the largest vote of any non-party candidate in the Euopean elections. We drew attention to the scandals of MEPs’ allowances and expenses. We exposed a scandal of unrepresentative democracy. We drove a nail into the coffin of the undemoctratic closed list sysrtem of elections. We stirred things up. We made a difference.
Thanks for everything
Martin Bell

I have to vote, so yes, voted for the conservatives, but no VB. But a centre-left-right gov’t πŸ™ a rainbow-gov’t they call it over here.

Martin Bell is a former war journalist who stood against the corrupt Hamiltons (who accepted envelopes stuffed with used cash – for questions?) and won as an independant backed by all the other partys (I think).
Later he was then ‘flown’ in as an independant good guy wherever there were bad politicians (everywhere!) but has failed to attract the same interest anywhere else…

The Hamiltons have now made a career as a double act…

I voted for Martin Bell. I was fortunate that I found a politician that I like, trust and respect. I emailed him – and he replied. It is most illuminating, and shows what a fdecent chap he is:

Dear Mark
I was most gratified to receive your message. I have had many others to the same effect – many from people who, otherwise, would not have voted.
We have today been doing the arithmetic. The entire campaign from beginning to end cost just Β£796.85. We pleaded with people not to send us money, but will have to register an anonymous donation of 20 first class stamps.
For me, it has been most inspiring. If we lose, it will not be my much. And if we win, it will be a mighty blow for honest politics.
Roll on tomorrow!
Thanks again
Martin Bell

Elections in Flanders: Vlaams Blok has become the largest party which means all traditional parties (conservatives, socialists, liberals) have to form a gov’t to survive. Not a very bright future apparently.

I voted for Transparant Europe

It is a new party lead by a guy who was responsible (at least for a rather large part of it) for the downfall of the previous european commision.

But for the record, voting for Europe is like begging for water in the a deserted place in the desert, doesn’t influence shΓt. Its not like the parlement has real power to do something. Also for the record, I do like the idea of a more unified Europe, because I do think its needed in a more globalised world, but I wish all those bureaucrats who make up silly rules would dissapear. Why can’t you vote for european parties in the european elections?

Well you succeded into get Paul van Buitenen voted into the EP 😎 .

Sammie, I agree with you on the point that there should be European parties. It is ridiculous that we can vote for individual parties and those parties are going to merge into on, once they become members of the EP.
I am ashamed on myself because I voted for someone whom I knew personally. I excusal had the choice between tree people if I wanted to vote for someone I know personally πŸ˜‰ and that is from the β€œextreme” left (SP) to the β€œextreme” right (VVD), but she had the ideas with which I happened to agree.
I am a firm believer in the European idea and therefore am fascinated by this elections. It is a real shame that only <40% of the Dutch took the trouble to vote. I urge on everyone (and even you Ben) to take the time and get to know the issues and vote for which (European) party has your preference.
