European summer meet?

Ok, after another successful meet been and gone, I’ve been chatting with Andrew (SHAMROCK321) and Tom (Future Pilot) about having another in the summer. Being a little bit more adventurous this time and holding it somewhere in Europe for a night or two.

We’ve come up with a short list of ZRH(with a bus tour of the ramp etc http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5636438 note how close this bus gets you!), CGN, AMS or MAD- as I’ve seen all those mentioned since the DUB meet- with a provisional date of 7th/8th-9th July.
Ok, I was planning on creating a poll to make it a bit easier to keep track of things, but apparently that feature doesn’t exist anymore?

We’re starting the thread now to see what sort of interest there is, and hopefully take it from there!

Should, but get it right and trains could work out cheaper.

I for one, would only have to pay a seat reservation fee!

Amsterdam is reachable but your talking about taking alot longer having to go via Brussels then picking up Thalys.

Pain in the **** really, your better off flying 😀

Seriously you should come with us to NYC as we arrive on 4th of July and according various websites the festivities along the brooklyn bridge river are amazing, they even close the highway!

Andrew, I just looked at my dates for July. We might be back in the Azores for two gigs on the 7th and 8th, so if I did come to NYC I’d have to leave on the 4th (as we fly out the day before the gig) or look into flights direct to TER early on the 6th (if I can talk our promotor into paying for them), so it might have to be YYZ if you guys don’t have too much work to do. The Azores gigs arn’t confirmed yet but we were there that time last year, so it’s looking quite good. Anyway, YYZ could be good. I missed out on Niagra Falls last time I was there and it would be nice for the temperature to be a little more than -30! I’ll let you know what happens.

I like the idea of the train. If a group of us met up surely we could use the eurostar and that would work out cheaper? I dont know, ive never used the Eurostar.

Thats like cuting your nose off to spite your face!!!! Do you want the airlines to fail or something?? There should only be ONE travel option. LOL :diablo:

I think it’s just the fact that I talk more nonsense than you Mark!

I’ll look into flight prices for either YYZ or NYC. It would be nice to see Toronto in temperatures above -20! I’ll let you know what I come up with.

Plus our hotel room is way cheaper with 3 in NY but in Toronto its not an option for 3. Plus we have stuff to do in YYZ but all free time in NY!

Ill even talk randomness with u 😀 Image that on flight home 😀

Andrew clearly enjoyed your company far more than I did then 😀

Mark, will you have much free time when you’re in Toronto or New York? I’m free at the moment for those days and wouldn’t mind another hop across the pond!

As far as the dates for a European meet are concerned, it look like I’m working on the 8th 😡

Toronto and New York yeah, we have very little if anything really planned. Denver no not really, hence me trying to get people to come along to actualy justify us going in the first place 😀

Would probably be quicker to fly over the pond, than getting the ‘Chav Express’ to LBA!

I’d be up for an international meet… but maybe even further afield? St Maarten would be nice :p

DXB would be awesome if it had any spotting spots. I only discovered a minor one when I was there, a cafe area.

We discussed this at DUB, it involved chartering an Eastern Jetstream to get there! 😀

My vote would probably be Zurich.
+ Ramp tour
+ Great for viewing
+ Fantastic scenery
+ Not too expensive
+ Museum
+ Maybe Geneva, Basle by rail??

– Only real downside is traffic heavily biased towards Swissair.

Just had a look at traffic expected over a weekend in July and some interesting ones:

Thai A340-600, Korean Air A330, Malaysian B777, Singapore B744
Emirates A340-300, Qatar A300, Royal jordanian A321, SAA A340-200

Usual American 763 , Continental 762, Delta 763, United 763 etc

Aeroflot A319, Macedonia 733, Montenegro F100, Adria CRJ, Styrian CRJ etc

Are EK not going to keep using the A345 for the summer?

I may be committing Blasphemy here, but is the Channel Tunnel an option?

Only an option for Paris and Brussels. At CDG spotting is now officially illegal, so not an option. At BRU spotting is officially boring as hell, so not a good option either (not to mention hard to get to good spots).

i.e. if everyone does decide on a meet, but it isn’t easily accessible by air through lack of routes at local airport, or if the route does exist it is too expensive, would getting the train there be viable?

😮 You are! 😉 Although don’t let me stop you getting the train from Edinburgh to Zurich. 😉
With the possible exception of AMS, no-where is particularly cheap from EDI, even CGN on Germanwings was £125, which is why it wouldn’t bother to me a little extra to get to ZRH, I could fly KLM from EDI for about £160. For anyone living furthur South, Helvetic do LTN-ZRH, they might be quite cheap?

CPH is awkward for viewing, but no more so than most European airports.

Several people have mentioned long haul, dont think this was particularly serious, but if anyone is interested AndrewM and myself are in Toronto 27/28/29 June, and New York 4/5/6 July. Denver 30/1/2 July would also be good as then we can sell you lots of FS stuff 😉

As I’ve mentioned to Tom I’m a bit tied up time and money wise, but should be able to fit something in somewhere I hope!

Well I want you all to bear somthing in mind. When the 3 of us were talking about it we came to the conclusion that we will be doing mroe than planespotting. So we want to go somewhere were the beer is cheap and we can have a good time when it turns dark. Now my idea of a good time is good food, drink and a good conversation.
