Hi,
As you know, I’m off to Thailand for the third time in the Spring and was scheduled to fly with Phuket Air from Gatwick to Bangkok.
I was slightly weary of flying with the airline. The little information I had about them was not so great. They flew rather old aircraft, mainly 742s, 743s and 732s and these were not reliable. Not so long ago, an engine or two on a 747-200 would not start after pushback from the terminal in Dubai. As a result, the flight was cancelled and all passengers had to be transferred onto services with Emirates.
Anyway, Kuoni sent a letter to us today stating that our trip on Wednesday 16 March 2005 had been changed. Instead of going on this date, we would now leave the day before, still flying with Phuket Air.
This date was not possible. Because the family all have jobs, we had carefully planned when to go. It had to be on the 16th or not at all. A phone call to Kuoni was quickly made and we looked at all of the options available. The cheapest would have been Qatar Airways (via Doha), though it seems that all flights on these dates were fully booked.
The only options available to us were Thai (£140 each extra), British Airways (£120), Qantas/Austrian Airlines (£115) or Eva Air/Emirates (£70). Naturally, we wanted the cheapest option. For the convenience of a direct flight, we reluctantly agreed to take the flights with Eva Air at a cost of £280 extra for the family. Our holiday had already been cut short because of the change – 29 nights had become 28 nights.
After much arguing with Kuoni and about 20 telephone calls later, they realised that we were regular customers, having booked at least 6 holidays though them. They said that if we paid a rather random £106, they would cough up the other £174. Not a bad deal, so we’ve booked it.
Anyway, it’s going to be Eva Air next year. We’re on flight BR68 outbound and BR67 inbound to/from Bangkok. Both legs of the trip will be operated by a Boeing 747-400.
But, what can I expect from them? Anyone have any experiences with them that they would be willing to share? CarSurvey.org and dooyoo.co.uk have a rather limited, disappointing selection.
Thanks 🙂

Many thanks for the comments guys, I’m really looking forward to it.
Evergreen Deluxe? Is that their First of Business Class cabin, or is it their premium economy? I know they do an upgrade to the next one up from economy for a measly £99 each way.
The evergreen deluxe cabin in where their first class used to be in the nose of the 747, so its quiet as well.
for the small extra cost you get..
Business class seats, loads of leg room, priority boarding, seperate checkin at LHR, upgraded menu etc… I really cannot recommend it enough.
Regards, Allen 😎 🙂

I have flown a couple of times with Eva and have to say they are a very good airline and great value for money. We have only flown in their Evergreen Deluxe Class which was excellent!!
I have never flown in their economy but they have above average seat pitch of 33″.
The cabin crew are very good and the inflight service is great.
They use 747 combi aircraft on their LHR – BKK – Taiwan route.
When My wife and I go on holiday to Thailand, I would always fly Eva Evergreen Deluxe. 🙂

They cant have pinched the BR flight code. That belongs to the dearly missed British Caledonian, forever.

To be honest Ive never flown with EvaAirways but the impression I get from trip reports is they are a very freinldy efficent airline (when langing gear isnt collapsing) and you should enjoy your expeirence.I think most Asian airlines have ood service but as I said thats only from reading trip reports.
