Evans VP-1

Greetings all, first post in GA as i normally reside in Historic

I have begun construction of an Evans VP-1 and was just wondering if any others on here have built one and are aware of any pitfalls in the construction process?

Also any maintenance tips and pilot’s opinions/notes would be most welcome

My friend bought one as his first aircraft.

His first take off was only separated by a matter of seconds from his first engine failure, his first forced landing and his first crash.

He walked away 🙂

I’m not surprised he walked away. If the Cub is only just fast enough to kill you the VP-1 is just about fast enough to injure you.

RA.Aus

G’day Canberra, surprised to see you’re asking here rather than on www.Receationalflying.com.au That is the home forum for things aviation in Australia. You could also try www.Homebuiltairplanes.com This is the American site where there are more basic flyers than anywhere else.

Good luck with your VP-1.

Cheers, Doug

SAAA

Canberra should contact the Sport Aircraft Association of Australia, as they hold the right to check and survey all Homebuilt/experimental aircraft in Australia. Work site and ability has to be assed before comencement to build. No check–no regristration, or if building under the RAA (Recreational Aviation Association) same applies.

I don’t know about the pitfalls of building one but I have heard that one of the pitfalls of flying one is its rate of climb or lack of, rumoured to be more a case of waiting for the earth to drop away from it.

You might to want to look here. The LAA would probably be able to help you but I assume there is an equivalent organisation Down Under?
