According to the papers Ryanair’s new fleet is to be ordered without reclining seets and window blinds! They say they can save £1.3 million in fuels costs without the extra weight.
They also can save a further 20% if pax carry on their own luggage!!!
Talking of RYR I am going to do some spotting weekends away. Apart from Dublin do they fly anywhere, from STN/BOH I am likely to actually log some aircraft without a coach journey(eg Hahn/FRA)?

Errr, more likely because of high fuel costs, high lease costs, high maintance and general high overheads coupled with low demand.

I dont think no reclining seats or window blinds would actually bother me on a flight. To be quite honest I dont think I can remember the last time I reclined my seat or shut the window blind. I also actually dont like shutting the window blinds on flights where I have people sitting next to me or in the aisle seat as I wouldnt want to block their view. I know I would get p****d off if I was sitting on an aisle seat and couldnt see anything except a blind!
And hey remember, Ryanair’s new planes have leather seats! Cant all be that bad! 😀

Anyway, getting rid of seat pockets means the annoying metal frame wont be digging into my knees anymore and no recline means that the selfish birk in front of me isn’t going crush me! GREAT!

Dude, I wasn’t saying anything about inflight meals ETC.
If I fly Ryanair or Easyjet, I expect to have to pay for everything on board. Fair do’s I say.
What I mean is, non reclining seats will save weight, which saves on fuel, which saves money. These savings should be reflected in the prices. The prices should go down even more. And I think they will.
But Profiteering is bad, its bad PR, bad policy and also against regulations.

I don’t see how removing the window blinds will save money. The weigh little to nothing they’ll only save a few pounds(lbs) in weight in total!
Naturaly non reclining seats will be mechanically simpler and a lot lighter, I can see the logic in that.
Besides, the average Ryanair flight is on 60-70 minutes.
My face would be glued to the window checking out the views the entire flight, I don’t need a window shade or a reclining seat. Infact, I’ve never reclined my seat. And only once did I pull my shade down, and thats because the strong sunlight was reflecting off my metal cutlery and into my eyes while eating my lunch on a BA 737-200 from Edinburgh to Düsseldorf, LOL (summer `96.. ah memories)
A good move I think by Ryanair, but only so if closely following by price cuts once the modifications are complete. Otherwise its blatant profiteering.

I was reviewing Ryanair’s terms and conditions earlier on. They do not accept cash, and if you pay by credit or debit card, you incur a £1 (debit) or £4 (credit) on top of your ticket.
They certainly have sneaky ways of making money!

you know what i mean…so basic and so bland

But an 8 year old wouldn’t have the brains to remove window blinds and reclining seats to save an airline money. I would never have though of it!

If the aircraft isn’t on the ground wasting money, it can be in the air making money.
Yeah but i would still feel like i am in an airplane that an 8 year old designed( missing out detail )

Interflug 62M
My last post was badly worded and did not put across my meaning at all well. I meant to express concern over exactly how much these cutbacks mean to the passenger and where they will conceivably stop. What does service mean to Ryanair in light of their recent wheelchair levy? A 50p per flight charge will rake in another ten million pounds a year and with the other savings made by the measures listed in previous posts, is it an indication that the airline needs more cash to expand or that they are just greedy for profit?

kev I’m not sure that Ryanair would cut corners on its safety but I agree that it does make you wonder where it will all end
By: MSR777 - 16th February 2004 at 17:47
Won’t that be sad!!
By: Airline owner - 16th February 2004 at 17:30
Ryanair does cheap flighs but there is no nee dto get cheap and tacky aircraft. And another thing the airline has cut back on thier colour scheme…removing the stripes in the harp on the tail. This is shown in Airliner World (most recent) 😡 😡 😡 If they keep cutting back there wont be a Ryanair to talk about…:p
By: MSR777 - 16th February 2004 at 17:16
Yup, thats Ryanair alright! I’m betting on the cabins being fitted with wooden slatted seats before Xmas! Pine of course, so much cheaper and lighter than mahogany! Seriously though, if I hadn’t
read about this myself I don’t think I would have believed it. Where will it end? Strip out the wall panels and carpet Oh yes and possibly the loos, Ryanair could dish out vouchers for you to use either before boarding or after arrival at destination, and if you really could’nt wait while airborne they could charge you for a disposable bed pan, covered in advertising of course! Sorry guys I just think they’re a joke! use them if you must. Now where was that advert for cheap palletts I could pass on to them……………..
By: FlyMonarch - 16th February 2004 at 16:00
i agree with you, its stupid, cutting costs yet again Ryanair !!?? tut tut tut:mad:
By: 4 engines good - 16th February 2004 at 13:20
I think it’s ludicrous myself. There is a limit to what people will put up with to save a few quid. What next, charging £1 for using the toilet?
And it’s not like Ryanair is dramatically cheaper than other budget airlines anyway. I suspect not an awful lot of the savings that will be achieved by this will actually be passed on to the passengers either. By comparison even Easyjet will be left looking like Emirates First Class next to Ryanair. Will more people really be happy to fly in such conditions for the sake of saving an extra fiver?
By: LBARULES - 16th February 2004 at 13:05
No reclining seats wouldnt bother me as ive never been on a flight where ive felt the need to recline and its not as if RYR fly longhaul. Same with window blinds, ive never touched em. Not sure about taking your luggage on though.. prefer to get rid of it so I dont have to lug it round the airport.m
