Burtonwood was, at one time, the largest airfield in Europe. Being the largest it was, of course, a major American base.
Very little remains of the site now but there is an excellent museum the Burtonwood Heritage Centre. There is plenty of free parking and admission is free but please do contribute something. It is well worth a visit if you are in the Warrington area.
Gulliver have built one of their parks on part of the site and support the Heritage Centre. On the weekend of 17/18 September 2016 the Heritage Centre is holding it’s annual Stars & Stripes event details here

This is a very pleasant and laid back, 1940s, event and does pretty much what it says. For the avoidance of any doubt there are NO static aircraft and, in the past two years anyway, no air display.
This is a small event with admission at £3, so, again, if you are in the area certainly worth a visit.
We enjoyed the event which had a good relaxing atmosphere with interesting displays. The Heritage Centre is open but access only through the show on these days.
If visiting Gullivers Warrington with the family you can access the Heritage Centre from within Gullivers while she who must be obeyed and the kids enjoy the rides. 😎
