All,
I know this is not Historic, but I hope that all the forum folk and their families who are in or around London today are all alright
Regards,
John

In point of fact it is they who are “weak”. Make a point at the ballot box and not with a bomb. They’re the weak cowards>>

these guys figure that we in the west are “weak” because we would rather talk than act
Then they are mistaken. Right will prevail. Justice will come.

Having lived in a M/lim country for three years these guys figure that we in the west are “weak” because we would rather talk than act. To avenge the deaths and this cowardly act all steps must be taken and if necessary not limited in the prosecution of the final outcome>>

The flypast was practised over Duxford on Friday and is planned to go ahead on Sunday afternoon, weather permitting! It was touch and go on Friday on cloud base and crosswinds at Duxford. All the historic aircraft will launch from there.

Sad news indeed. But london has always been bombed, as a city we get over it pretty fast I think.
Maybe its not in the best possible taste to ask at this point but does anyone know whether or not the VE day flypast has been cancelled?

Justice oscar duck, not revenge – we will/should not lower elseselves to their level.

Here in LosAngeles we got 3 minutes on the morning news about what was going on in London, followed by 9 minutes of what the LAPD was doing about it & how they were going to cope…. Not entirely sure how they were involved from 6500 miles away

A cowardly act of sheer ********* that should not go unavenged>>
No, not revenge, that would make us as bad as them. We should seek justice, though.
My sincere condolences to all those affected in whatever way.
I think we should organise a do/shopping spree in London, those of us that don’t live there, to show our defiance (and get/do whatever cool stuff London has to offer, of course) and our solidarity.
BL has stated that he cannot match us militarily, but he can wreck economic warfare upon us, and we should do all we can to counter that.
Don’t stay away.

Well put!
Let’s face it. We are all in the frontline. The highest regards for “ordinary” people carrying on, regardless.

Quote from Oscar Duck…
three cheers for those of the emergency/rescue/police services and others…
I second that……
I work just round the corner from Edgeware Road, and walk to work from Paddington, and have regularly gone past the station.
I got into work fifteen minutes after the blast, and have the utmost respect for the guys in the emergency services that had to go back in too assist the injured.
Cheers
Tim

Most people in London were not in panic, so one part of the meaning of the attacks has failed. The terrorists want panic, that’s something that wasn’t in London.

Going through Kings Cross now I always think of the fire – how long ago was that?
It was a Thursday night in November 1987. Memories of that night still send shivers down my spine. There but for the grace of god… 🙁

I’m puzzled why you think that cancelling an event would be an appropriate mark of respect. The planning that goes into any airshow goes on for months and involves, in some cases, a huge amount of expense.
If extremeists are behind this attack, then cancelling anything means that they have won. They are determined to destroy our way of life and we should not give one inch in our determination to preserve it.

I’m glad this is the prevailing spirit here, this will make me feel safer on my journey there tomorrow morning.

Watching “News” right now:
Interviewing passengers CPH – LON:
“Whatever You do – don’t give in to terrorists!”
By: Chris G - 7th July 2005 at 20:13
Absolutely right Snapper (S1a take note)
Shame the BBC doesn’t realise that wall to wall news of these events is playing into the hands of the terrorists. Amazingly they suspended pointless speculative programming to show “enders”, presumably to show the true grit of london(?). Back with more pointless publicity for them now back on air…..
By: Arthur - 7th July 2005 at 20:02
Well said Snapper.
The more you react to terrorist attacks, the more effective they are.
By: Snapper - 7th July 2005 at 20:00
Terrorism is designed to spread fear and worry. With the exception of 9/11 they are usually ‘relatively’ minor in terms of scale – but massive in target ‘impact’. It is a political weapon. Today has caused great loss of life, but more importantly (for the perpetrators) disruption on an even grander scale. Security in rail and bus stations, airports, ferry terminals etc will be massively pronounced, people will be stuck away from home, London was no doubt at a standstill – and it will take months to feel safe again for many. Going through Kings Cross now I always think of the fire – how long ago was that?
Terrorism is the real ‘shock and awe’ way of attacking a nation. And with VE/VJ, G8 and an ongoing war in Iraq it is not hard to see why the timing is so skilfully chosen, politically speaking.
But, we have lived through it before, with the Irish terror groups and others. And we shall weather the storm (as a nation) once more. If you start cancelling things because of a terrorist strike then you cripple yourselves.
