I was just thinking the other day about the old AC-103 gunship and the evolution it has gone. But then I was wondering if they will continue to improve it. I would think that in todays world that type of weapon could be very useful. But I feel it needs to have a more presision strike capability. Which got me wondering I know the army used to have Copperhead rounds ( laser guided 155mm rounds ) do or did they ever make them for the 105mm ? And then does anyone think it’s possible to mount a 155mm gun into a new AC-130 ( maybe the J model ) , that combined with the additional stand off range and possible copperhead accuracy makes for a very potent weapon , just sitting overhead waiting for targets to present them selves.
And just a side note I am surprised only the US SF has found use for these aircraft , Israel surely with it’s fights again Hamas and Hezbollah could use these to great effect since neither have any sort of air defense to speek of.
