I don’t know if these have been mentioned before or indeed if the owner is a forum member, but this set of photos is truly amazing and shocking all at the same time. I think i actually shed a tear at some. http://www.flickr.com/photos/alanwz581/page1/

Right.
A general reply all who wish to have a go cleaning up the slides. You should be able to download them direct from my Flickr site at the original size. If you can’t e mail me and I will send what you want.
I would like to see the original cleaned up like I have seen on this thread already. As I have more space on my Flickr site than I will never use, if you want to crop and change I am happy to put that on next to the original to show what can be done. All credit will be given.
I’m please that so many have enjoyed my pictures. I was very lucky to have been at the right place at the right time, plus it was a honor to know Eric Hayward and for him to trust me with his slides
As for starting the swordfish – never again. Thanks Bill

Wonderfull pictures of days long gone. Instant time machine, thanks to the fact that pictures were taken!
And nice to see that other members on here taking the effort to give the photo’s some life back!
Well this was my first post, reading Flypast and the other one for more than 30 years, and this forum for about 5 years.
I am 58 years old and have worked for 40 years in the field of engineering.
Best regards.

Its pretty tragic to see the former Keenair Dakota being cut up at Coventry – an aircraft that in the 1990’s should happily have found a home whole.

Aaaaaggghhhhhhh !! Enough to make forumites weep into their beer. I was astounded to see the pics. of Victor XL-161 being cut-up, well slashed up really. (Lyneham).
This aircraft was the one that got into a spin with a Blue Steel (Live as in –to launch) near Adelaide, Aussie way back in July 1962. The HSD Chief Test pilot was I/C and he pulled the brake chute and that stopped the spin. Aircraft got back to Edinburgh Field OK but had wrinkles inboard of upper Mainplanes Outer skins. The Aircraft was red line entry’d for every flight till she was re-furbished back at UK Manufacturers. I was a fitter on XL-161 from Oct.62 till April 65, when Blue Steel Trials were cancelled and we got sent back to UK. So very poignant for me to see these wrecking pics. I knew that she had met her demise at Lyneham, but didn’t know of pics. existence. XL-161 should have been kept for posterity.
Alan has done a great job of taking and assembling these historic pics, the great man himself can be seen winding the starter handle for the Swordfish at Yeovilton.

Do we have the freedom to crop etc as some of the photos are so dirty cropping can get rid of that but it may alter the size/dimensions of the photo.

Hey there,
I would suggest that we keep the images whole and simply colour-balance / clean up etc. what’s there. Cropping can always be undertaken later on as required, but I’d suggest in that case we supply two cleaned up images, one whole and one cropped.
Just my opinion though!!

e mail maybe 10 photos each. That way it’s not too much for one person and they all get done in time.
See how many takers there are.
Good idea! I’m happy to help – my email address is sboreeves
gmail.com. If you want to send me about 10 hi-res scans I’ll tidy them up and email them back, then you can upload them on your Flickr account.
What I’d suggest is perhaps to keep two sets alive on Flickr – one with all the originals and another with all the improved images. That way you can always compare the two versions in case there’s a discrepancy and you’ll also always have a copy of the original scan.
Cheers,
Simon.

I don’t mind dibbing in as and when i get a chance.Maybe a good way of completing it is to see how many people are willing to have a go then give out via e mail maybe 10 photos each. That way it’s not too much for one person and they all get done in time.Just pick out the best ones you want doing.
See how many takers there are.

trumper, Timc63 & SimonR.
Many thanks for showing me what is possible.
Do you fancy doing any more?? If so, once they have been cleaned up I will re-do the Flickr page.
Mark12 I guessing your only interested in doing the 2 Henlow Spitfire ones. Just need to get the slides to you.

With all due respect to Eric and his photos, here’s my efforts on putting a little bit of a 2014 twist on with the technology available which I”d like to think Eric would approve?
Many thanks to Alan for making Eric’s shots available, they have certainly brightened up my, and many others day!
Cheers
Tim

I have have a go at this one.As i say i am not brilliant at it just colour, sharpness and a bit of cloning to remove the worst of the muck-cropping helped.
By: Mark12 - 26th April 2014 at 21:27
Timc63, trumper and anybody else.
The slides are in my possession. They were given to me personally by Eric Hayward. I have sat on them for years and finally decided to try my hand with a cheepy scanner and scan them in and put them on my Flickr site giving Eric full credit.
I can believe the amount of hits they have had and the interest they have produced.
I am open to all and any help any one can give me in producing a better result. The question is what to do with the better results. Do I use them to replace my attempts on my Flickr site or start a fresh site??
The next load is from Eric’s scrap book on the rebuild of Hunter F.50 G-HUNT
Many thanks
Alan (Not Alan P of CIAF)
Here is what I could achieve with just the Flickr download. I could get much better with access to the original slide.
