Not really supposed to tell you this, friend knows because he works for the Welsh Assembly Government, but can’t see it doing any harm; Easyjet are looking at 15 locations around the UK to create a new maintanance hub. One of the hot favourates is St Athan, now DARA are pulling out 550 workers are unemployed and world class facilities are empty. The WDA are submitting an offer, presumably to pay for the workers retraining, and cover the costs of moving in etc. They mite not get it but it’s got exactly what EZY needs- world class facilities (brand new super-hanger), workers and the perfect location near CWL, the BA Maintainance hanger and the GE aircraft engine plant. Not sure what the other 14 locations are.

Any news on if EZY will have a second maintenance base?

their deffinately going to one of them, so even if they keep the current contract they will stil be choosing a second base.

mmm very sceptical of this as its totally out of the way for easyJet. They are far more likely to either keep current contract (in my view most likely) or to use facilities at one of their hubs or on their route network as they can juggle aircraft around to fit into this.
Location isn’t everything.
If the price is right and the pro’s outweigh the cons then its a sensible choice.
At the end of the day.. the airline bods know what they are doing, we do not. Ergo we cannot realy pass judgement
