Hi All,
Is that the Dora being restored at Hanger 10
On a lighter note Isn’t typical of all birds very expensive at the best of times :highly_amused: :highly_amused: :highly_amused:

Geoff.

Nope Geoff, not a Hangar10 project. Hangar 10 gave only shelter to Mr.Falch who build up that aircraft (http://www.sandyair.com/) in the big hangar owned by Hangar10, better the Airfighter Academy GmbH. The Bf109 G14 in the Hangar10 collection is also a rebuild by SandyAir/Falch.

I see now, it seems Mittelwerk (and no doubt other ex factories) had a number of sticky fingered visitors after the reunification of Germany in the 90s.

As I said, it was 10+ years ago; there used to be something on line; I’ll see if I can find it later.

A number of the V1’s that have appeared lately came from similar sources, including the FHC examples (and their V2)

A LOT of original FW material came out of Germany about 10-12 years ago; much of it having been rescued from underground factories; some more stuff came out of Russia too, including a few surface wrecks.

+1 on the underground factories. I’m aware of the Russian recoveries and some of the stuff dug up in Germany like the Frankfurt engines, but I thought the old factories had long since been cleaned out.

Can you elaborate further Bruce?

Who cares. If someone has deep enough pockets to buy it, restore to static condition to then stick in a hangar, crack on.

Even if it is returned to an airworthy condition I say the more the merrier….

Now rescuing parts from underground factories [ That’s a much more interesting subject than the provenance of some aircraft for sale] Its a pity subjects like this are not discussed here. I for one would like to know more about this.

Is this the ex Champlin Museum example? Seem to recall it was a ground runner in 98.

No, the Champlin one is an original example, and is now with Paul Allen in Seattle.

I read the provenance; lots of original FW parts, but not original to that aircraft.

I take my hat off to anyone who can make sense of the engineering that is a FW190; they are a very complex aircraft for their time. Its a great achievement, even if the provenance is a bit muddy.

The Grahame-White Factory at Hendon is full of newly-built airframes onto which they have hung original engines, instruments, fittings, etc.

They call them ‘replicas’

Sorry, it is still a ‘bitsa’ in my book. The only two originals are Paul Allen’s and the Dayton machine, any others are modern recreations.

Which is ok, as the precedence has been set by many flying Spitfires and Mustangs. 😀

Engine and many smaller items (as listed) are original FW, the major structure is new build.

Wk.nr 400616 was a 99% loss when it crash landed after combat.

A lot of money for a FSM!

If you read the advert carefully you will note how much of the aircraft is original but as per normal on this forum snarky remarks rule…..of course those who responded with the remarks all know of at least 20 original ones under 1.2 million ???
