Exporting aircraft or parts from Europe , any restrictions ?

As the title suggests if one wanted to export historic aircraft parts from Europe to the UK does anyone know of any restrictions ?

If they are ‘wreck recovered’ I’d be very careful, and ensure you have paperwork/provenance confirming source, ownership/title etc.

These things are getting very tricky, or can be, at French or Belgian ports.

You might need to consider paperwork if they are from Norway, but it could be simpler from Denmark or Sweden. This is based on experience with Safir, Draken and Viggen imports respectively.

Fair point. Maybe thedawnpatrol wishes to elaborate on his reference to ‘historic aircraft parts’?

Normally only if they are in the national interest.

Might there also be restrictions in the country where the historic artefacts currently are located on their export from that country?

It also depends what, there are obvious restrictions on certain military equipment and materials made from.

Best consult the HMRC website, it’s fairly clear.

Jules,

You need to be cautious about such movements, due to a number of factors.

Movements from on EU country to another EU country are relatively straight forward, assuming that the item was originally manufactured inside the EU.

Variations to these situations e.g. moving from EU country to a non EU country; or item manufactured outside EU can invoke tariffs, different rates of VAT etc.

Here’s weblink that I found helpful in 2015 when importing some aviation items from the southern hemisphere.
